434mhz key fob compatibility

Post by milkyjoe01 » Thu Feb 16, 2017 4:18 am

I'm experiencing an issue with my Audi A3 key fob. It is intermittently unlocking/locking the doors. If I hold it directly above the bonnet inbetween the wiperblades it works every time so I assumed it was the battery but a new battery has not changed the issue. 99% sure it's the internal circuit board for the central locking so i can use my top 1/2 with the internals of a 2nd hand fob that looks similar to mine. So basically all I need is the internal circuit board for the central locking from a similar looking fob & all i need to know now is can i use a key fob that is 433.92mhz even though my fob is 434mhz? i've been told by 1 ebay seller that you can use a 433.92mhz fob as a 434mhz fob but i am unsure, i know it's only 0.08mhz difference but it is a different frequency. Any help provided is much appreciated.

I seriously doubt it will work. I would get the right frequency one.

Does your other key work OK?
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

I thought there were only a few frequencies used, 434 and 838mhz or something like that. I am assuming 434 is just 433.92 rounded up. But defo get more information before buying.

Spot on, I need more info before i go ahead & buy a 439.92mhz fob, you know what Audi electronics are like!! Marvellous when they work correctly but as soon as there's a niggle it seems to affect everything & anything!! If anyone can offer an insight to this I'd appreciate it. Another option would be to purchase a 2nd hand 434mhz newer style fob with the silver key chain attachment but because it's a slightly different shape i would have to split it open & remove my key blade & transponder from the top 1/2 as the newer style 434mhz are a lot easy to find & purchase than the older 434mhz type, but do you know how easy it is to split the top 1/2 open? The bottom part is easy with it containing the battery that obviously needs replacing at some point in it's like so it can be split open with finger force but has Audi glued the top part together leaving me no other option but to split it with a scalpel & then re-glue the top 1/2 back together? There in lies another issue, where exactly is the transponder? Wouldn't want to cut too deep (if cutting is involved that is) & damage the transponder!
