Owning a B7 RS4 in Switzerland

Post by gruber » Tue Apr 12, 2016 2:09 pm

I come seeking advice...

It looks like a move to Geneva is on the cards. Rather than take our current cars over, it seems to make sense to sell here and then buy something LHD over there that suits our needs. And given that it snows, we have a little'un, and I'll have a bit of time to explore mountain passes, it seems clear to me that I need a 4wd fast family estate car. I've always wanted a B7 and have never scratched the itch, so this could be my opportunity. But...

Having done plenty of reading about things to look out for, does anyone know of specialists out there (particularly in the Geneva area) who might do inspections and / or servicing in due course?

Has anyone on here owned a B7 out there and can advise on tax? Having plugged in the details I seem to be looking at north of 1000 CHFs for annual road tax (ouch)... is that correct? And are there any specialist insurers I should talk to out there?

And finally, is there a Swiss RS246 contingent for the occasional get together?

Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place (mods, feel free to move me) but any help would be much appreciated.

We're at least a couple of months away from this becoming a reality, so there's no immediate rush. But any tips / advice much appreciated as I decide whether the car bit of the plan is a good idea.

TL;DR: newbie wants RS4 in Switzerland - good plan?

Garage De Vincy is close to Geneva, just across the border. Don't think you'll find better. I have heard many, many good things. They're also an MRC agent.

I believe there is a specialist in Lausanne, or near to, but I can't for the life of me remember the name.

Having spent a few months working in Montreux last year I'd say best get used to stealthily placed speed cameras everywhere! Swiss have a passion against speeding which is bizarre considering the number of fast cars on the road...
