A3 S-Line 2009 Black Edition Common Faults

Post by milkyjoe01 » Tue May 19, 2015 9:46 pm

Hi. In the next few days i'm going to look at a 2009, Audi A3, S-Line Black Edition, 2.0TDi 3 door & i am not very familiar with these models. Can anyone give me a general idea of what to look out for when purchasing this particular car? Common faults, noises, vehicle history (parts replaced), improper wear & tear (uneven tyre wear), etc. I have V.C.D.S. so i should be able to plug that in for a start & that should tell me of any logged in fault codes on the CANBUS system. Any help, advice or info from any S-Line black edition owners would be extremely appreciated.

Cambelt due at 5 years, if it doesn't have this walk away. Advisable but not essential to do water pump at same time

Service interval is 20,000 miles / 2 years MAX

If the stamps aren't from Audi I'd be asking why not

Check rear wiper and washer for correct operation. If it works fine but simply sits too low when the car is parked (ie. the end of the wiper overlaps the bottom edge of the rear windscreen onto the painted tailgate) its probably working fine, but just needs the cheap + commonly failed spring replacing

Vagcom will tell you the ECU mileage, no harm checking, as there must be plenty of 2009 A3s that will have done 25k+ a year, lots of company car A3s out there

S lines are very hard riding with lower suspension and bigger wheels than sport models. So yes Id definitely check for matching tyres from a decent brand, tread depths etc. Fronts only last for about 10k

Otherwise very comfortable motors, I did a 11 hour / 600+ mile journey in our family 2.0 TDi A3 last Sunday, continuous driving bar about 15-20 minutes for loo, fuel and swapping front seats every 2 hours

Thanks for the reply but i didn't end up going. I've been advised that if budget will allow i should go for a 2010 or newer as these had the revised, longer, oil pump hex balancer shaft which is a common problem. Were you aware of this issue & have you any thoughts on this?

Er wasn't aware of any issues (or significant model changes) there tbh. Last main facelift was Sept 2008 '58' where the headlights are visibly different and xenons gained drls
