MGF or New Tigra

Post by gavsteryoung » Mon Apr 11, 2005 9:54 am

Hey guys,

Wife is looking for new car, we tried out the New Tigra 1.8 on Saturday and she is now really tempted, she was previously looking at an MGF but I was trying to shy her away from the MG due to reliability..... but now the Tigra will be 6k more than an MGF.

Please Tell me the MGF's are Crap! So I know I have done the right thing!

Anyone know anything about the Vauxhall 1.8 125hp EcoTec Engine? Any good? Anything to look out for?

cheers Gents!

MGF's are good for the price, and don't have too many reliability issues that I am aware of (sister has one as do a couple of guys here at work). You might want to consider how any warranty problems might be dealt with in the light of what is currently going on with MG/Rover.
Also, I would guess there might be some bargain buys to be had if you want to take a risk... ;)

I would think there will be a few dealers looking to offload stock PDQ this week

You'd be much better off with a 2nd hand Honda S2000 then a new MGF or the Tigra

Two S2000's might be a bit snobish..... We already have one.... she dont like driving it......

I slightly get where she is coming from, the S you feel real exposed with the roof down, and when at traffic lights it feels like people are looking over the car. The Tigra did feel like a normal car but with no roof, it did feel real safe. Not inspiring in any way..... but 14k would get a 99/00 50k S2000 or a 05 50mile Tigra....

Nightmare....
