I was out for a drive with a friend and his girlfriend last night, going up the A32 from Wickham area.. I came across a dirty old white octavia doing 10mph under the limit so I overtook it and proceeded on my drive, only to notice after a few minutes it was still there in the distance. I picked the pace up a bit and again he matched my speed from a distance at which point i was thinking along the lines of it being a police car. A little way up and a dirty black 5 series starts acting weird and then tried to block our path. No blue lights from either car or I would have stopped straight away. Matey that blocked me freaked me out a bit and i again picked the pace up a bit. A VAN then tried the same trick as the BMW! I got enough of a lead that i was going out of sight for 5+ seconds at a time so i dived down a side road and turned the lights off and watched all 3 sail past at speed. There was a helicopter buzzing around too but he didn't seem too interested in my car weirdly.

I have various excuses for not really putting the hammer down. Headlights being crap (about to upgrade), road being very bumpy and not wanting to scare the hell out of my mate's GF. Trying to get away from people while driving smooth and safe is a difficult line to walk lol. Edit: thinking about it with the heli buzzing around it would have been a very unwise choice anyway.

Odd but could have been CID.

I had a similar incident in my youth heading for a night out in Kingston. Traveling at a fair lick overtaking the odd car on a Saturday night, I pulled up at a set of traffic lights. Waiting a minute or so a Corsa pulls up quickly behind me and then another Astra comes screeching to a stop diagonally across my front, blocking my exit. A passenger quickly hops out the car in normal clothes but holding up a wallet/badge, neither cars had blue lights. Turns out it was CID along with the car behind me. I'd overtaken both cars on my journey at speed and they thought my car (BMW at the time) could have been nicked hence the aggressive manoeuvre. After establishing the car was mine, legal and engine correlated to the chassis, I got told to slow it down and I was free to go.

To be honest despite my previous experience some 15 years ago now, I wouldn't pull over for a car without blue lights in this day of age. However if I was blocked in/threatened by a criminal and they wanted the car, they could have it because things can escalate quite quickly.

I've chatted to an off duty CID chap while sat at the lights once, that was quite amusing. Nothing like your encounter though!
It was shortly after I had the Milltek non-res fitted, I wasn't going nuts but was using lots of full throttle at low rpm with all the windows down and some tunes playing quietly in the background.. he pulled up next to me at the lights and I acknowledged him with a nod when I saw him looking over the car, then he just said "I'm off duty cid" at which point i kinda shat a brick as he'd seen he slow (a lot) for a speed camera and then make progress again afterwards! He just said to me "nice car, but slow it down a bit". They generally seem very decent.

My thoughts are pretty much in line with yours, I won't stop unless I see blue lights, but yeah, with Crims there's no point risking getting stabbed or shot but I'll have a damn good go at getting away unless I'm totally boxed in.

I was followed and caught up by a Corsa with an off duty Copper whilst in my C63. He said he saw me undertake another car and zoom off on the dual carriageway. He was the biggest w4nker I've been pulled over by. He even called a fast response Polus car. I denied everything and said prove it off duty copra. The plod in the fast response motor had a chat with the w4nker and put him right. They let me go after a sharp bollock1ng. The moral is never admit anything. Let them prove it.
