The figures that Evo obtained for acceleration figures for the M3 CSL are very odd and when you compare then against the figures that Autocar got for a normal M3 (0 - 60 in 4.8 ) somethings not right. The CSL has 255 bhp per ton as opposed to the normal M3's 219 bhp per ton. According to one of the EVO testers there is a suspicion that the car they tested was'nt the best example and may have been down on power. They also commented that as opposed to a manual gearbox, the SMG gearbox on the CSL requires more familiarisation in order to get a good 0 - 60 time.TimJMS wrote:Figures produced for the GT3 look very impressive.
Figures given for CSL look utterly <beep> and if true then my 535D sport touring is faster to 120mph by 1.7 seconds and its a big heavy diesel!
Didnt those figs come from the Porsche lovers' monthly?
As for people thinking that the all the CSL's performance is due to the magical properties of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres - think again. I've run mine on Pilot Cups and Pirelli Neros and whilst it's true that the Cups give more ultimate grip they are'nt very forgiving at the limit whereas I find the Pirelli Neros to have slightly less grip but easier to control on the limit. There was a test that compared a CSL running standard tyres and one running Pilot Cups - yes the CSL running Cups was faster particularly on twisty circuits but not by a huge amount. Certainly nowhere near to explaining the big difference between a standard M3 time around the Ring and the CSL time. The other point to make is that, like the GT3 RS the CSL suspension needs to be set correctly to get the best out of the tyres. As delivered by BMW, the CSL's suspension is'nt set up to get the best out of the Cup tyres - if you adjust it with more camber then it makes a huge difference to lap times. It would be interesting to see what a CSL with optimised suspension settings and Cup tyres could achieve around the Ring.

Has any of the CSL owners here or anyone know any good european foruns about M3 CSL and normal! M3 ??
Another question, do you CSL owners think the extra $$$ the GT3 costs compare to CSL worth it in terms of track performance ? or you are just pay the symbol....when i say GT3, is the normal one, not the RS version.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,

A good web site for M3 and M3 CSL owners is www.bm3w.co.uk
The M3 CSL with some slight mods - better brakes and camber adjustment will outperform a GT3 on track.
With further mods such as race cats, rear box and KW adjustable suspension then a CSL will be equal to and in certain cases outperform a GT3 RS on track.
Thats why at £38K a CSL is a performance bargain.

True but911TT_STEVO wrote:Same could be said about that limited edition 400bhp Evo, thats just over 40k, why not get that?
- CSL much more reliable - normal service intervals e.t.c Running costs reasonably low.
- build quality much better on a CSL
- EVO is likely to depreciate more - CSL price is an already depreciated price.
- CSL is more fun to drive IMHO

scillyisles,
First of all, thanks for the link (site)
and also with your opinion about it. But tell me 1 thing, do you own an CLS, right ? do you already had driven a GT3 in the same track that you driven your CSL ? both stock´s ? what are for you the main differences (acceleration, braking, weight, curves, pleasure,...,...) ???
Thanks in advance again

Regards,
Yes I do own a CSL but no I've not driven a GT3 on the same track therefore I cannot comment on this aspect.
Just by coincidence a similar discussion is taking place on Pistonheads at the moment and some of the participants have owned GT3s (Mk 1 and Mk2) and also GT3 RS as well as CSL. Look at this http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... 6&f=48&h=0

I think this could go on and on and on!!!
I believe if the CSL and the GT3 were straight out the wrapper with no mods that the GT3 would just steal it (just remember!)
If it was the GT3 RS it would win a lot easier!
All we keep hearing is a little mod here and there!, a little adjustment here and there!! why not stockers!!!
