Crap or cool?
My initials are JPS - I could have S444 JPS for £400 on my S4. At the moment it has a very dull "W" reg on it.
I am split - I saw L4Y ME the other day on an S2000 which someone had made look like "LAY ME". A cry for help methinks. I thought "to#sser".
All opinions welcome.

Having PP on most of my cars, it is really a persoanl choice, some of them make me laugh, some of the naff ones when they try and spell words using 3 as E make me wince..............I recently bought one for £250 from the DVLA and it has everybody laughing.............
RE: Personalised Registrations
I've one, but can be a bad think, i.e. "there's that chap who overtook me last week in that bright red S3, I remember the plate!" etc.
The font isn't 100% DVLA spec, but isn't cheesey
Last year on the way back from "Run To The Sun" down Newquay, I got a £30 fine for it

Me? D1 ES...etc They are only cool (if ever) when they are laid out legal - anything else is clutching at straws/trying too hard. Ohh and a 6 is never a G etc!!!
Paul Daniels' is fun as MAG 1C (no dodgy spacing either) Steve Parish's PEN 1S is not quite to my taste though!

Mine is my wife's name (nickname) I bought it for her as a birthday present.... Was amazed it was still there, her dad had wanted to buy it for her when she was 17. Of course when I bought it 7 years later it was exactly 5 times the price. I am sure it will increase in value even further still. There are not many things you can buy that are 'autpomobile' realted that actually stand a chance of making money.....
RE: Personalised Registrations
Both crap & cool. Not into egotism myself, so don't like ones with initials. Unlike simple1 I think words have the advantage as they have a less limited market if you get bored and want to sell. I've got a collection incl. X3NON if I ever get an X3 (saw X5 for sale recently @ £7950) and one for a Q7. Only regret is selling B16 MUF when my wife had our first baby - not a joke anymore!
RE: Personalised Registrations
Yep, we have private plates.
We don't bother with personal names, preferring something that has a meaning to the car/bike.
I saw a reg that is my nickname but was not prepared to pay the price for it.
Some we've seen are very inventive. I think 'Feed Me' is a superb one, especially when you read the tag line that goes with it.

I think some plates are cool. I bought one for my girlfriend for christmas direct from the DVLA. The plate means something to her... it starts Y, two numbers for the year she was born, and ends KEL.
The worst part of the whole process though, was getting the plate transferred. The DVLA are a shambles.
We went, between Christmas and New Year to the local DVLA office in Old Trafford, Manchester. We thought, "No problem, it will be quiet, they'll sort out the paper work, scribble out a new tax disk, and we'll have the plate on in no time at all". How wrong we were.
The place was heaving with people. We were in a queue of about 10-15 for the private plate desk alone. When we got to the desk, the guy just took our forms, and said "You can have your tax disk today, but you'll have to queue with everyone else. Or it will be 7-10 working days before it will reach you by post". Due to the volume of people waiting, about 50+, we decided on the postal option.
What annoyed me was: they can write out tax discs in the post office, why couldn't he? He wasn't really that busy.
The tax itself only had one month left on it. And today we went to renew it. But, the DVLA sent out the wrong V11 reminder document, with the old reg on. So I tried to ring the DVLA just to check whether the post office will be able to process our tax or not. Both local office numbers and the swansea numbers take you through to the worlds worst automated telephone system. None of the options matched what I was wanting to ask, and at no point was there the option "speak to an advisor". If there was, I missed it.
Anyway, we chanced it at the post office. All we needed was the V5C.

They are normally fairly good, especially when it was bought from the DVLA, had a few problems with mine, but they were registered in Ireland and the two systems dont talk to each other..... like you, 7-10 day option which turned into 7-10 months as they could not read...............lets not go there..
RE: Personalised Registrations
I had K3V GT on my Punto GT, been looking for an s4 plate but way to many s4 cars around.
Best plate I saw was on a Cosworth Sierra EAT 500T, amused me no end. Ferrari many years ago on the Edgeware rd had BRE 5T, not sure on that one.
Only issue I had with my transfer was I couldn't get mine taxed until I got a new cover note from my insurance company with the new registration on, even though I had the DVLA transfer details etc....Chicken and egg all over again.

Best'I've ever seen was F11NGS - with two black bolt heads at the top and middle of the 11 so it read FANGS and it was on a red Viper near jctn 11 M4 , a few years ago now.

Were any of you aware that P1 LOT sold for over a quarter of a million? Went up for auction the day the 'P' plates were released and obviously someone had more money than sense...
These are some currently up for grabs if you have some cash for funny ones...
T17 TYS £11,995
8 OSS £100k+!!!!
80 XER £35k
CLA 55 £90k
FAB 53X £7995
CUM 1N £28745
HOR 5E £57495
I REALLY wanted P155 OFF, but strangely the DVLA wouldn't issue it..
Looks like some people made some good investments over the years. Shame I wasn't one of em!
