I only pose the question since I had a new screen fitted on my daughter's Mini first. The original screen had several chips in the vision area, thanks to our jolly old council throwing loads of stone chips on a bit of sticky black stuff.
The new screen was fitted and only two days later a tiny stone hit and a large crack appeared. Then a week later when I was driving again a stone I could hardly see hit the screen and it looked like someone had fired a ball bearing with a catapult.
Another screen is needed. I only ask because my Audi has been hit numerous times with stones even making me jump from the bang yet virtually no visible damage.
I contacted the council and I'm sure you can guess their answer.
Are replacement windscreens weaker than OEM?
Re: Are replacement windscreens weaker than OEM?
"depends"
Most insurers will use a non oem "like for like" replacement.
However I would always push for full oem and on the Audi it's Saint Gobain IIRC.
