Fancy Landrover Defenders

Post by wrekka » Sat Jan 25, 2014 11:07 pm

Got my current copy of Evo number 193 and there seems to be an increasing abundance of adverts for modded Landrover Defenders - "Twisted", "Alive Tuning", "Kahn", "Nurburg".

Am I missing something here - are these Defender based products getting popular? Don't get me wrong they look quite impressive but equally have impressive price tags.

Am I suddenly going to see lots of these about?

Anyone got one or know someone who has?

In reality a Defender is a Defender regardless of how you tart it up :!: :!: Posh seats and small steering wheel with lots of leather doesn't detract from the fact they are uncomfortable and cramped to drive but I just love them and especially when tuned by Pete Bell of Bell Auto Services :biggrin3:
"UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

I reckon the demand is stemming from the Chinese market as we're seeing all the major manufacturers revealing more & more so called SUV's; even the premium marques are developing modern 4x4's such as Lamborghini with the Uros (stunning) & Bentley's abomination

With the rise in disposable income rocketing in China but with their infrastructure lagging behind their new-found wealth, fancy 4x4's are becoming more attractive than fast and low sportscars and with the "perceived" quality of a traditional British product there's some serious wonga to be made.

Bowler Wildcat every time for me

No such thing anymore, Wildcat was sold by Bowler to QT some years ago and now QT have gone - sold out to Bearmach but I think Wildcat will continue under what was QT but a new name.

Yeah i've been aware of some of the tuning brands over the years but there was only the odd 1 or 2 specific to Landrover e.g. Overfinch - now gone I think?
There just seems a lot about now.
I do ike the Twisted models.

Yeah,

I know what you are saying about the plethora now available, but I think that's as much a reflection of modern affluence trends as anything - theres a lot more upper wealthy than middle wealthy and hence these premium products have a larger clientele to work with. In the UK I would imagine the state of the roads and the following of wags and wouldbe celebriddeeez fashion trends has helped.

Overfinch are still going in name I think, but not in the same way and haven't been a serious engineering company for some time.

I see the Bowler challenge is running this year and its £50k + VAT so £60k for one of their modified vehicles - really can't work out why as the base vehicle can be bought for £23k inc VAT and then you put in some seats £2k, a roll cage £2k, steering wheel £500, fancy electrics for speed and distance £1500, add on some suspension £1500 and wheels/tyres £1500 with new brakes £2k and then add labour to do the job £5k and that's all in for under £40k :!: :!:

Even if I have missed some bits its still along way off £60k :!: :!:

"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
