How do I complain correctly?
Hi folks,
How do I complain correctly?
What a nightmare I have had with Audi! Anyway to cut a long story short, I have an RS6, I took it into Audi a few months ago for a service and to investigate an oil leak. They said they would charge me 2 hours labour to look for the leak before even opening the bonnet. They gave me a work sheet thing and told me that the car needed 2 new rocker cover gaskets, a new oil cooler as it was leaking gearbox oil from it and the turbo hoses were leaking. I took the car home parked it up and it was left till Sunday when I got back from work and the car went to Unit 20 for the work to be carried out.
Michael looked at the car and inside 10 minutes he told me that the fuel pump was leaking, there was an oil leak from the sump as it needed sealed, the radiator was leaking and I needed a new high pressure hose to the turbo.
I want a refund from the Audi dealership that carried out the work as they did not properly investigate the problem and I also think they were over charging me for their time, as Michael did it in 10 minutes. Would this be covered under trading standards? What would be my best approach as I tend to be a bit blunt when my hackles are up. I have also complained to Audi UK about this dealer because of poor service, they also stole the oil that I supplied for the service. Audi UK didn't really give a monkeys or so I thought. Is it worth involving them again? I asked Michael to provide me with photographs and details of the work.
Thanks.

Re: How do I complain correctly?
Audi will say who are "Unit 20" you may have a bit more of a case if you took the car to another Audi garage I will more than likely be wrong but you never know
Re: How do I complain correctly?
Seems you have a case, two in fact if you include the theft of the oil.
You need to speak to the manager of the audi garage you took the car to and explain to him what had happened, See what he says. Dont get fobbed off by the guy/girl at the service desk.
Secondly you need to write to Audi UK customer service.
Use correct terminology, explain that you had the work carried out by a independent garage for peace of mind and second opinion (like you did).
Hopefully they will resolve this issue, the manager more than likely will put things right or at least offer good will if you go back to that particular dealership.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Re: How do I complain correctly?
The OP is a good question and one I need to work out. My B7 RS4 flashed an amber and then red oil warning lit last month. Fortunately I was literally 50 yards from home. I was puzzled as I'd just topped off the oil a few days earlier. Chucked in another litre and still the dipstick registered v. low. I moved the car fifteen feet to flatter ground just in case that was the issue and the. Then I saw a tell tale trail of oil on the ground.
AA came round and dropped the front splitter to get to the oil rad and found a split in the shorter (offside) hose coupling. Relayed to my local garage the next day for a fix and a (due) service. £1800 later ....
They could not get the coupling off the oil rad due to the aluminium/steel galvanic corrosion problem. So what should have been an £80 hose replacement turned into both hoses and the oil rad being replaced at a cost of £800 + labour. I am hacked off. This is a design fault. Any schoolboy knows that aluminium plus steel plus salt water (low slung front rad) equals galvanic corrosion and trouble.
So I want to gripe at Audi but I'm not sure where to start. Any ideas guys?
Duncan

If you pushed it 200 yards further down the road, couldn't you get it flat-bedded to Audi as a part of your breakdown cover... justsayin' innit.DuncanF wrote:The OP is a good question and one I need to work out.
