What went wrong here?
This car is exactly like mine and I've never experienced this kind of understeer:
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

Re: What went wrong here?
Wow, that's a nasty one. He made a real mangled mess of that M3!!
I watched it over and over to see if the car oversteered but it definately looks like it understeered. Could be as simple as bald front tyres, or a bit of oil / grease on the road. Or maybe he has modified the suspension which could make the car behave differently?

Nasty !
Bet the last couple of seconds before leaving the road will never be forgotten.

Re: What went wrong here?
That porker in front almost loses it on the first bend, but didn't struggle with bend where the M3 came off. I think they were going pretty quickly. Maybe he was just going too fast to turn in - you can see how the bend suddenly sharpens up slightly where he starts to lose it.

Re: What went wrong here?
Watch it again. No one has ever aught him how to drive fast. He's looking about 10 feet in front of the car, instead of as far up the road as he can. He is going too fast. He has no idea of what a fast line Is thru a corner. He could go just as fast, brake hard, turn in later so he hits the apex (not car lengths before the apex) then accelerate out of the corner once the car is pointing straight. It's almost impossible to get an M3 to understeer unless all you do is turn the steering wheel ( which he is clearly seen doing before he takes off) The car should be able to be controlled on the edge of oversteer just with the accelerator.

Fantastic road, hope he was OK. Looks like he went in too fast, scary.

Ooof...
Mind you - sure it'll t-cut out.
Looks like a number of things - the road surface looks lighter... I wonder if it's a bit dusty.
Hard to see but the road elevation obviously goes through some quite big changes so may have been unloaded a bit at the time.
However it does look like a classic case of simply carrying too much speed into a blind tightening corner.
Once you have understeer adding more lock doesn't help - he needed to get some load on those tyres and restore grip by taking some lock off, lifting a bit (even braking probably wouldn't hurt) and paying to whatever god of his choice that he wouldn't run out of road before he got around the corner.

Re: What went wrong here?
I agree on the too much speed and too constant a speed around (noticed no engine braking) that sweeping bend that to me at least looks like it is tightening a bit in the second half. Unless supremely confident, I would back off a touch coming in, drop down a gear to give me some engine braking while staying in the power band and in the latter half of the bend push my luck and if brain had the time to process what was happening if it did go wrong, apply shedloads of power to the back wheels to try to spin around more/redirect some of the momentum if you follow..
Great saying that with hindsight though, been in that situation about 10 years ago in a moment of red mist but luckily kept her on the road, fishtailed and did a 720. Is it safe to take the piss out of Bridgestones now that Panda isn't around much?

Absolutely this - give the road something back, take the lock off.Once you have understeer adding more lock doesn't help - he needed to get some load on those tyres and restore grip by taking some lock off, lifting a bit (even braking probably wouldn't hurt)
