Insurance write off

Can anyone tell me at what point the actual ownership of a car changes when you accept the offer given by an insurance company when it's written off?

Is it when I verbally accept the offer/receive the cheque/or the cheque clears?

If it makes any difference, it was not written off by my own insurers so as such I have no contract with the insurance company who have written it off.

Any help appreciated.

Your contract is with 'your' insurance company, I dont understand how another insurance company can write your car off
