P.S. Wait a year and you guys will get a movie of a RS4 kicking ass of a 3.0 TDI A6 (dad´s car)... that is, if I can get hold of 380 hp..

Future Owner..
Hi everybody ! I really love the RS4, but I still can´t drive (one year left, here in Portugal you can only drive at 18..
) but a year isn´t much and I pretend to get the RS4 as soon as I make 18, so I joined the forum, to know the car better before I have the pleasure of getting her...

Yeah, I know, but It won´t be my first driving.. not by far.. I drive (in closed places) since 12, and this year, I have already drived in real live streets, and I drive well (I know I do because my dad also likes driving a lot and only says I´m doing well when I really am) the RS will be a lot more than our car, but as you said, I´ll be carefull.. By the way, how can you drive with 15 in Germany ??
RS4 as your first car.... Sounds impressive. Good luck.

It's not so much about controlling the car as it is controlling yourself. Avoiding too big risks, showing off with a fast car etc, having enough self-restraint to keep sensible speeds if road isn't safe. Even if someone wants to race with you in M3 or whatever. And about reading the traffic etc, so don't be fooled into thinking you can drive, if you've rehearsed on closed roads.
I know this too well as I crashed my first car. I'd started driving around 10y old -but still made a silly mistake, took a stupid chance.
I would never recommend RS4 as the first car. Too easy to drive fast, need to take big chances to learn how to control.
330i bimmer maybe, main thing is rwd and not too much power, you'll learn to control the car more. With 4wd you won't learn very well, at least on tarmac roads. From there a bit more power, maybe even quattro, but one step at a time.
Still, I can understand it being a dream car for 18 year old too

Yes, you´re absolutly right.. about the insurance, I think it will be of a normal car, I don´t know, but if it becomes too expensive because of my age, I´ll register it in the name of my father..Jani wrote:It's not so much about controlling the car as it is controlling yourself. You guys are all saying that the RS is a very difficult car to control.. do you guys think I should start with a S4 Avant and upgrade it till the RS point ? maybe it would be better for me since I never thouched a 380hp car.. my dad sugested me this and made me think..
I think you should start with something the size of a Golf to start with, and not not a GTI or R32!!! Get a couple of years experience under your belt and then consider an RS seriously.

Maybe if their is a good example of a RS4 when i come around to buying my next car i might go for one... providing i can afford it.
Yes i agree with Phil, why not go for a GT TDi or something like that... second hand preferbly or if you want a new car the Seat Cupra TDi and Skoda Fabia vRS and good diesel cars!

I`m just a hardcore petrol head I almost crashed my RS4 5 mins after picking her up,roads were very wet and i gave it to much right foot from the lights, resulting in me hurtling towards a wall!
I went from a 265 bhp S3 which is no slouch to the RS4,and i still got into trouble with the car, despite years of driving!
Listen to the lads on this site, loads of good advice etc
Cheers fc

The S3 is a fantastic car. Build quality inside and out is just as good as the RS4. And believe me it is a very quick car, but easier to handle than the RS4 because you're not trying to shift so much weight around. Having said that, I'd agree with the other guys, you don't want too much power in your first car. Start off with a 1.4 or 1.6, something like that, get used to how cars handle in different conditions without having the power to do yourself too much damage. The amount of people I know who thought they were indestructable after passing their test first time and then had accidents is not even funny. In fact, people who failed first time seemed to be safer when they got their licence.
Anyway, if you get an S3 or RS4 now, what have you got to look forward to?!?!
They're worth waiting for

Well, you are not allowed to drive on open roads. What I do is driving races with some smaller cars (75bhp Saxo, 150bhp Race Polo (1000kg)).By the way, how can you drive with 15 in Germany ??
I drive my dad's RS4, on an old military parking place, which is rented (?) by our car club every Sauturday. For doing some practice for slalom races, it is better and more fun to use my mom's Golf (TDI 105bhp) it is a very quick car I have to admit. I use the RS when we don't do slalom races and it is a lot of fun when you put your right foot down in 2nd and 3rd (sometimes 4th) gear (not enough room). Even if it is not really what you call fast (I'm talking of top speed in 3rd gear).
I agree with all the others, u r 18, go and buy an old car.
MY dad said, my car first car will be an old Golf II or III.
Cheers
