at this level, those Norschleife and Hockenheim times are driven by the tyres. The CSL has stickies so it does really well.
the Gallardo on PZero Rossos did 1 11.8 at Hockenheim, Pirelli Corsas or Michelin Cup tyres will cut a bit off that, making it as fast as the Carrera GT - True not quite! The Carrera GT on Corsas will be faster again.
The right tyres seem to be worth 100 horsepower in lap times! I was going to write 50 hp but its not enough.

Sorry Conti, I don´t have the RS4 test. Btw, why did they stop this Sport Auto tv program on DSF? Eventhough I didn´t understand a word, it was nice to watch.
Nordschleife is right about the tyres but only partialy. Most people think that the Corsa tyres gives you a huge difference in grip. Nop! that´s not right! I have my self 3 sets of wheels and tyres for my RS4 sedan. 2 Corsas and 1 Rosso. I go to the track quite often and each time I change wheels/tyres. I can say that the Corsa tyres are better but not that much as everyone thinks.
Here is an example:
The standard GT3 makes in Hockenheim 1.13,2 min and the GT3 RS makes 1.11,8 min, which means 1,4 sec faster.
Those 1,4 sec are brought by 50kgs lighter version, different suspension, track setup of the suspension (don´t listen what Posche says that GT3 RS is also for everyday use, I have driven the car), stronger engine and finally the Corsa tyres. So everyone can calculate approximately how much benefit those Corsa tyres bring. Maybe 0,3 -0,4 sec, or Am I wrong?
I have heard that the Michelin cup tyres has better grip than the Corsas. But again how much better will it be in sec?
Also you can note that sports cars, which don´t have those Corsa and Cup tyres like Zonda, Carrera GT, Gallardo etc, have much wider tyres than the Stradale, CSL and GT3 RS, which use those grippy tyres and in the final they have more grip from tyres.
Nordschleife, note that the CSL is THE SPORTS CAR! And so is the GT3 RS.

Well i think that the RS4 is a wonderful motor car but its not 100% a sports car, aerodynamics also have a big part on performance and handling....F@cking, why is the RS4 that slow!
If Quattro GmbH can pull the weight of their RS cars down and get the driver involvement side of things sussed then the next RS4 has the potential to be a good drivers car.
I was hoping for the RS3 to emerge but after recent and past issues with my local dealers and the whole VAG organisation in the UK im taking my money elsewhere.... most likely to BMW.
Dont get my wrong Audi and now VW make great cars and i love my R32 soo much... it really does give you more fun and driver involvement but having a expensive car and a rubbish after sales care/service doesnt really do it for me.
Still keeping my options open but im swaying towards a BMW next.
Riz

The A2/A8 aluminium chassis in the RS cars would have made sense. The M3 Coupe Sports Lightweight concept goes back to the legendary 3.0 CSL back in 1972. BMW are happy to go the past for inspiration.Riz_32 wrote:F@cking, why is the RS4 that slow!

Sorry to have come to the thread so late!
Congratulations on the latest purchase John, I am loving mine more each day.
Keep it on the Cups when you can. The whole design of the CSL has been optimised around those tyres. The car wants to understeer with the AVS Yokos. On Cups NONE:)))) Bloody thing just grips and grips and turns in sharply. Makes all the right noises, but needs driving. I find it all very uneasy when being driven slowly
Balance is great. Unlike many of the cars listed above she has virtually 50 : 50 weight distribution front : rear. Soooo easy to catch with some opposite lock. Easy to be always in the right gear. Brakes and gears in harmony, hands on wheel.
Done six full trackdays now and try as I might I cannot get the terminal brake fade that the RS4 used to evoke. Perhaps its the ability to carry much more speed through turns that helps, or perhaps I am smoother these days?
Enjoy. Those first 1250 miles were hateful
