John,

Two questions for you.

1. When you say you've looked in the Times and "they are fetching £82-83k" you actually mean they are advertised at that price. Bit of difference to what they actually go for of course...

2. Who is saying that the GT3 is selling for "6-7k over list"?? I find that to be a bit

If it was me I'd take it, enjoy it but be prepared to lose £6k in 6 months

JR,

thought I'd post this which was mailed to me yesterday by a friend of mine also into cars.
Make sure this doesn't happen to you
Unbelievable, this morning. GT2 pulls out in front of me & forces me to
break fairly heavily. Next set of pedestrian lights are red, so he stops,
I'm the next car behind him. This is all in a residential, 30mph zone,
often with kids & parents on the pavement.

Predictable he floors it away from them, and just as I was contemplating
hoofing it too (VR wasn't warmed up..., so didn't), the rear of the Porker
moves a fair bit to the right, then swings a lot too the left, then way too
much to the right & he's off up the pavement (fortunately no pedestrians).

Somehow saves it from going into the wall on the far side of pavement, but
overcorrects & veers sharply across the road (nothing coming - again
fortunately). Up the kerb on the other side & onto some grass & eventually
stops.

This probably all happened in less than 5 seconds, but the car was out of
control for the whole time.

The 50 yr old idiot gets out somewhat shaken & walks around the car to
inspect damage (don't think there was bodywork damage, but hopefully some
suspension damage).

I wind down my window, amazed at his stupidity & inability to handle such a
car & give him a shout. "Oi, if you can't handle the power of the car, then
don't drive it." His response - a very humble "I know."

How many GT2's are there Webbo, it was on an 02 plate, in silver, nah,
didn't like the chap, call it grey!

Without wishing to tar all Porsche drivers with the same brush I'm really not suprised by that story at John

The majority of Porsche drivers I see where I live and drive are 50+ accountants/property tyes on the 2nd marriage and see the Porker as the £70k penile extension

Ok less of the Freud and back to the wine

Seems like every other one I see is being driven by a woman . We should do a little experiment -

a. How many porkers did you see today?
b. How many were being driven by women?
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

John - if you can afford to buy it then run it and enjoy it - you only live once.

My mate in Denver drives a 996 turbo - I was out in it yesterday and even at 5000 feet with 4 wheel drive it was mighty impressive. The GT3 is defintaely more of a drivers car and I'm sure after getting used to the sheer superiority of the ride, handling and power you'll be hard pressed to give it up.

Just looking at some of the earlier comments about being able to pick up a nearly new one (with the same spec?) for £73K I'd definately do my homework to see if this it true. However buying a car privately means that you'll possibly not get the Porsche finance deal whaich, I'm led to belive is very competitive.

Incidentally, I realised how much we get ripped off in theUK. My mate paid $80K US (honest-no bullsh*t) for a 6 month old silver 996TT, with 2000 miles on the clock. At the current rate of exchange that's £45K - hey I paid that for my M3

Not in my experience they aren't
Last year Audi offered me better rates, as did VW.
A few years back I financed my porker privately after doing a bit of ringing around. Best deal at the time was Alliance & Leicester.

Last year though, Jon's mate was offering by far the best deal.

John, I'd go have a look at www.rennlist.com (go to the uk discussion forum), www.flat-six.net, and another UK site I forget now. Ask on there what people are actually paying.
I don't visit these sites very often now, so haven't got a grip on what cars are selling for lately.

I too would buy it and enjoy it.

They way I see it JR is this:

1 Do you want the car ?

2 Can you afford to have that and the RS4 ?

3 If not then do you want rid of the RS4

No matter how much you may, or may not, make if you sell straight away or keep for a while it's down to personal preference.
