Bad News....Speeding

Post by watsonla » Fri Feb 27, 2004 5:04 pm

Last Friday I was caught speeding....49 in a 30 mph limit.
I contested with the "Liar" poilceman for nearly an hour.
He clearly wouldn't change his mind. The problem is that I had pulled out of junction 253 meters away...hit 49 and stopped. Stopping distance is 53 meters at 49mph allowing for .5 second reation time which equals 11.3 meter.
To make matters worse, after pulling out of the junction i only become visable after coming round a blind bend which is 93.4 meters away from the police officer and his speed gun. He managed to lock the laser gun on me at 92.4 meters away. This gave the police officer, at my speed of 49mph just .06 of a second to lock the laser on to my number plate and return a reading. An amazing reaction from an otherwise lazy overweight arrogant jobsworth.
Im not bitter, honest. The [censored] said he heard me coming!!!

The problem with it all is....honestly....I swear... I WAS NOT SPEEDING.

After taking legal advise I was told if I wanted to go to court I would need an expert to counter the police evidence which for the time and expertise starts at £2500, and I'm not guarenteed at win.

How much do you pay for a point of principle and still not win.

The police have you over a barrel. their word against yours...they win, you contest and pay through the nose and if you dont win the judge, whilst not playing with boys in a broom cupboard comes down on you harder with more points a bigger fine and court costs.

Now I have to inform my insurance and get raped again!

Might as well drive the bloody car like a stole it, kill someone, plead guilty, get £200 fine, banded for two weeks and promise never to do it again.

Policemen....tax revenue collectors...there the same.

All the best

The only thing that might save you in that situation is a Laser Jammer as the standard B2 is no good against mobile traps and even with the Laser detector it most probably wouldnt give you enough time to react before he got a reading. Optimum combination at the moment is most probably Origin B2 for static cameras combined with LRC100 Laser Jammer.

Dunc, you're right, he's not lying about the speed, but he *might* be infringing the Police guidelines for the siting of speed traps - there are set minimum distances with which a 'trap' can be positioned, and stuff around having good visibility of oncoming vehicles.

Ant, take some pics of the road layout - poss a video if you go to court.

p.s. I got stopped one xmas and was accused of speeding, although they couldn't prove it (you'll see why later) but still tried it on with a humerous quote along the lines of he 'heard me coming' . My radar had picked him up 1/2 mile before-hand and I dropped a gear to slow down - how I laughed!

'Naught as sure as death and taxes' so my old man used to say.......
Having been in the same circustances, although I was slowing for a junction and clocked at 78 in a 60 what can you say. I am convinced that I was targeted by Plod for somebody elses speed who he could not catch. I paid double the figure you mention to defend myself and still ended up with 3 points and £60 fine. Bitter medicine What happened to inocent until proven guilty, more like guilty until you can pay your way to inocence
I fitted a Bel 998 into my car, after loosing my dash mounted one to nice french Gendarme who also took 750 yoyos. Total cost nearly £1000 if you take the cost of the detector too

Ken, this is quite important for you as your from my area.
Stanway traffic police are doing tarffic speed assesments for the council in know black spots.
On the night I was pulled up I was travelling through Chappel. I was the only person the policeman pulled over in 100 cars serveyed. Probably the only modified 460bhp car he heard all night that would have disturbed his sleep.
so anyone in the colchester area...please beware on know black spots are the Police are at present doing serveys for the council on top of the usual speed traps they set up.

After 4 years of driving a 996 what I know to be totally illigal speeds and not getting pulled over I was on the verge of having a clean licence again.
Within days of having my RS4 I have had two encounters at 145+mph and so I dont expect sympathy for being caught speeding.
The annoying fact that has really quite upset me is the fact that I would stake my wife that I wasn't actually speeding.
I dont mind getting caught for the right reasons and downing my sorrows with a pint afterwards, but I feel really *%!"$&^ cross at the fact I have three points and a fine and the only way I can do anything about it is to raise the stakes...its like playing poker with odds all against me.
Heh ho...the money saved from going to court will be spent on a reall good laser jammer and goodies.
I do not intend to have my licence endorsed again.
All the best

Sorry to hear that Ant but the LRC-100 will not dissapoint. However I wish more people would take the Police to court over these issues, if you are sure that you have a good case I think its worth fighting it. I know it could potentially be an outlay but surely if you win they will have to pay your costs?

I was pulled over one day for "doing 90" on a dual carriageway. After a bit of a discussion I caught him out and he then said "well I was doing 90 to catch you up". Considering he was a good deal behind me and caught me up quite quickly its not surprising . I didnt bother going into the rules of physics with him and he was on his own in a Panda car so knew he wouldnt do anything about anyway so felt it was easier to take the lecture and get going again. What difference does it make if the policeman was alone in his car?
I've read it as fact that a policeman does NOT have to be with a partner to do you for speeding.
