Don't Drink and Drive

Post by toasty » Tue Dec 16, 2003 2:04 pm

Dunno if anyone else has seen this.

It's not very pleasant, so please don't follow the link if you think you may be upset by graphic images of car accident injuries.

Don't drink and drive

Certainly made me think, not that I drink and drive, but just generally about what a responsibility driving is.

Really brings the point home i don't drink and drive won't even have one and get behind the wheel. i'm curantly in South Africa for a month and you have a hard time getting them to wear a seatbelt and drinking and driving is the norm here. I think if i show this to some of the pepole down here it bring home the point

I think I agree with JR
Perhaps it should be compulsory viewing once a year , it is never worth the risk is it.

Found this poem on my local website-

DRINK DRIVING

I went to a party,

And remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink, Mom

So I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,

The way you said I would,

That I didn't drink and drive,

Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,

And your advice to me was right,

The party finally ended,

And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,

Sure to get home in one piece,

I never knew what was coming, Mom

Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,

And I hear the policeman say,

The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,

Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,

As I try hard not to cry.

I can hear the paramedic say,

This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,

While he was flying high,

Because he chose to drink and drive,

Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom

Knowing that it ruins lives?

And now the pain is cutting me,

Like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom

Tell daddy to be brave,

And when I go to heaven,

Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,

That it's wrong to drink and drive.

Maybe if his parents had,

I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom

I'm getting really scared.

These are my final moments,

And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom,

As I lie here and die.

I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"

So I love you and good-bye.

Drink and drive
Drugs and drive (legal and illegal)
Phone and drive
Argument with the missus and drive
Looking in the glove box and drive
Tired and drive

The list of distractions or states of mind a driver can create for themselves is endless, with any one of them having the potential to cause fatal/horrific injurys to driver and passengers or to other road users and bystanders.

This unfortunately is a by-product of the modern times we live in and we must come to accept the fact that this is happening on our roads and footpaths all around us every minute of every day and could quite easily happen to one of us though no fault of our own.

IMHO Too many people are driving around in their own little 20 yd bubble, not fully aware of what is going on around them or further up in front. I personally beleive that the key to be a safe driver on our public roads requires 90% road awareness and 10% driving skill. How unfortunate that so many people seem to have it the other way around.
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

That hits hard. Drink Driving is simply not acceptable in todays society. Makes me think how many other innocent people will end up either killed or seriously injured over the next few weeks...... Driving a car is one of the biggest responsibilities out there and drunk drivers are the twats out there that make it even more dangerous than it should be...

Same in mainland China!! People wear no seatbelt and DUI!!! I have a factory owner had an accidient with his wife driving a Volvo S80 with no seat belt, late night and DUI!!! It nearly killed them both!! Today, they still do the same!! Crazy mother....

I think education is the main point!!! Hoorible pictures and movies only works for a while!! Education is the key!!

Have a safe X'mas!

It surely is horrible but I had a few friends who would be happy to look like her but are now dead instead. And they did not go "peacefully" either.
