i`d love to see my speedo hit around 152mph again......

"only" 152???

Co-oPs are good for 153 easily - you're history

Are any of the Audis limited?. Coupes aren't, but max for a stock car is about 153-155 depending on what you read. This equates to off-the-clock on our 160mph speedos. Tuned cars just run into the rev limiter in top gear, which is somewhere around 160-165.

Apparently, Coop aerodynamics are pretty good, which helps again with the pretty respectable 0-100s and quarters.

Why oh why didn't Fiat use the Lancia Integrale floorpan (and 4WD system) instead of the Tipo? It would have been an all-time great, instead of the enthusiast-only car that it currently is. Still - if it was too good, there would be more around and everyone would know what it is - at least we have a degree of exclusivity on our side.

If the Coop is only good for that, then it doesn't need limiting
The S4, RS4, RS6 are limited to 155mph. Apparantly that is fast enough...

Good publicity - saying a car has a 155 limiter - even if it can't reach it. What does the S4 do as standard?

The Coop is good for a fair bit more when tweaked, which is good when you get a run at 155+, but I've only ever been higher than that on maybe three or four occasions in a Coop, and only twice in the 355.

Much more fun to dice at 60 - 100 (and far less chance of ending up behind bars too)

Are the Audi limiters as inaccurate as legend would have it (Clarkson seemed to think that it was doing 170+ before any kind of electronic intervention)

Saw the first post of this thread just before leaving for work this am and didn't quite have time to post the first reply. Come back from work and see that now I'll be about the 3 millionth.

I used to have a standard 20VT Coupe, now have a standard B6 S4.

I had great fun in the Coop, it handled surprisingly well considering the front engine/front wheel drive combination, although in the lower gears you sometimes had to hang on for dear life when the turbo kicked - there was bucketloads of torque steer (I ended up having to change a pair of tyres as frequently as every 7000 miles). But the turbo meant that this torque was delivered early and it surprised one or two pretty quick cars in the two years I had it. Good brakes and I come from the 'like the styling' school.

I'd say the S4 is quicker but I wouldn't bet that there is a lot in it in a straight line in the dry. Any bends or water and it's a different kettle of fish.

But then I spent £24,000 on the Coupe and £36,000 on the S4, so I guess I'd be disappointed if the latter didn't give me a bit more.

Why does everyone forget the RS2 Avant .. grrrrrrr ..

Stock, it's limited too but at 163mph! ... he he at 143mph (where many of you lot are on limiters.. or maxed..) we're just changing up to 6th .
Of course like many RS/S models.. it's easy to have the electronic v-max limiter removed .. And let's talk about torque ... And tuning ... not unknown to be sitting with at least 400lb/ft (just on an ECU remap)... even in the RS2' 5 pot 2.2!

The RS 6 is described in quattro GmbH's literature as "gently limited". As Clarkson did indeed say, it's possible to get over 155 stock. I couldn't say too much on this subject, but I can tell you the RS 6 changes up into 5th at 150mph and can break the "limited" speed, and I know 4 blokes that can back my claim up. Impressive what 4.2 litres of blown V8 can do even with almost 400kgs of driver and passenger...

I would say a RS6 should hit 179mph without any problems

All a matter of horsepower - 100mph in 5th is 3300 rpm (half way to redline), so with enough horsepower it would reach 200mph, theoretically. I think the aerodynamics don't do it any favours in that actually getting to 200mph would require lots of horsepower. I suppose a bit of undertray work and folding the wing mirrors in might help... If it wasn't for my Mrs squeezing my bollocks this evening, I'd have this 993 C4S Beauty, sat outside my house this weekend
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

She must have been squeezing mighty hard...that's a beaut.
The 993 is my favourite 'practical everyday car'

What about this one ?
