heard on news today that the cost of raising a kid to the age of 21 is £140,000 and I have two so I think I'll be lucky if I can hang on to my S4 Avant for much longer!

When I was trying to argue the need to upgrade from S3 to RS4 a year ago, my then girlfriend-later-fiancee-now wife thought I meant to have a lot of kids etc. etc. so she was asking "why do we need such a big car??? I like the S3...".
So, how was I going to argue the "bloody expensive estate"?

Well, took a different view on the same problem and went for an attack smack upfront : "I love sports cars. I'm going to have one. The S3 is not a sportscar. I'll get an RS4, that's a reasonable sports car. Got all safety electronics fitted, all wheel drive, loads of airbags, comfortable ride and lots of space for 4 and luggage, does not look like a sportscar".

The discussion was stopped immediately and the "reasonable sportscar" purchased.

This is where the conversation usually stops
