Hi,

S3 has a better trim level and stereo inside and will probably be more reliable in the long term.

the RS2 has the space and a far better engine and is alot more exclusive than an S3/Golf 4motion/Seat Leon Cupra R

Hi

We currently own both. Well the S3 belongs to him indoors and the RS2's mine. He bought a brand new S3 in September 2002 and I've had the RS2 since February this year.

They're very different cars to drive but both very enjoyable in their own way. There's a lot more power obviously in the RS2 and the fearsome acceleration is there - you don't get the same power kick in the S3 (un-tuned).

The S3 is easier to drive round town because of the lighter clutch. But there's nothing better than being on the motorway in the RS2 and surprising BMW and Mercedes drivers when a lardy estate leaves them for dead. You can't do that in an S3!

Him indoors says the S3 is really easy to drive, will never catch you out, and there's just something great about driving round in such a beautiful, well-finished car. GTI drivers do try it on but fail!

Obviously with a newer car you're unlikely to encounter the type of ongoing maintenance costs that you get with an 8 or 9 year old car performance car that is likely to have been driven quite hard.
