Imprezza STI PPP

Post by DuncS3 » Wed Jul 30, 2003 1:51 pm

Test drove the new facelifted model today, silver car with graphite wheels.

I have now been tainted, getting back into my lifeless steering, long throw gearbox S3, I cant stop thinking about swapping.

The Imprezza, if you can see through the crap interior and pathetic intercooler scoop is great fun to drive and very quic (300bhp/300torque with PPP). The S3 (in my opinion) is really lacking when you compare the two. The STI has big four pot Brembos, same size as my Porsche brakes too.

Oh and the noise!

Do you think I am crazy to consider swapping? Wife thinks its a trevs car and said she wouldnt get in it

Audi = Quality
Subaru = Far superior handling, speed and drivability

Forget both of them if you want the best A-B car, go for an EVO (see this weeks Autocar for 0-100-0 challenge, where the EVO beats the Subaru & M3). Throw in a bit of rain & twists and the EVO will be long gone.

Saying all this, Audi's are better built, more of a Q car, so it all depends upon what you are after. ie Q-car or Ultimate car

Dunc,
I had an Evo5 for 12 months before the S4, yes it was a great car for those 'spirited' driving moments but.....
for the rest of the time it was a pain, too harsh, too noisy, expensive to maintain etc, etc.
IMHO I would go with the S4 again given the choice, ok so mine is now quicker than the Evo but still the best choice even as std.
I suppose a lot depends on the mileage and type of driving you do in the main.
Having said all this I have never tried the Scoob so cannot really comment on it.

Had an Impreza STi VII Type UK PPP and it was lots of fun. Hated standard STi as power delivery was like an on and off switch. PPP totally transforms the car as does the Prodrive suspension. Seats nice, rest of nterior tacky, image terrible!!!!

I`ve always liked the Tommy M 6.5 Evo.......
Dont really like scoobies much..... also the resale values on these high performance jap cars are very poor indeed, why not just hyper-tune your S3? maybe 330bhp +
Image I`m just a hardcore petrol head :)

I take it you drive your S3 with the ESP off? The WRX is a fine car but it is still a rally car. You make a mistake and it won't forgive you. The car graveyards are full of WRXs.

If you're a good driver and have no desire for appearance of comfort, then the WRX is a great choice.

Dippy

I actually think that Imprezas are easy to drive and make complete idiots behind the wheel look like heros...there is no skill in making a Impreza go fast...

No, but it takes skill to drive an Impreza fast AND keep it on the road. That's what I meant about driving with ESP off.

Look at my website. I may not be the best driver in the world but I'm not crap either. I have been on the same road in the same conditions in my S4, but faster and I have no idea how I lost control of the Impreza. (Well actually I do - it's called understeer followed by lift-off oversteer).
