Rob, lets face it - the old bill will only tackle crimes when they can get a prosecution because it keeps the targets looking good. Catching speeders is a 100% detection rate. Report a car break in or theft of a mobile phone (as I have had to do recently) and they hate to take the details down as this type of crime has an almost 0% chance of detection and conviction and therefore drags the average conviction rate down. The girl at Orange told us to report the phone but said they will "resist" giving you a crime number for this very reason!

So when they say crime is down and detection is up - it's all because they are catching 2,000,000 speeders a year at 100% "success" rate. If they need to improve detection rates all they need do is target more motorists.

Then they create new "easily detected" crimes too - wrong type of rubbish in your recycle bin again 100% detection rate cos nobody reports it so there are never any undetected cases.

Writing this is making me more dpressed at the state of our Country - that's it, I'm off to NZ.

There's Lies, Damn Lies & then there's statistics!!

Well you think thats bad a recent case highlighted the evidence of policing by statistics.

A young lad was reported by a charity, for which he was doing sponsored fund raising, for not handing in sponsorship money. The police chose to interview all of his sponsors so creating approx 100 new crimes which were instantly solved!!

Unbelievable!!!!!

Unbelievable!!!!!
It's totally ridiculous but sadly it's not unbelievable ... so I guess that must be why the CID can't go around "wasting thousands of pounds" solving those "silly" hit & runs ... they have FAR more important things to do like interviewing sponsors don't they  ... what a pile of sh1t ... :x

i can cite an even more unbelievable one. a friend used to be a CID officer. he got a hiding in a pub by some local lads when he was off duty. he reported it as a civillian and was told there was insufficient evidence to secure a conviction even though it was witnessed by the bar staff and his wife.

twats won't even look after their own if there isn't the certainty of a conviction so what chance have we mere mortals got

Pics
Image
you can hardly see the dint and scratch after t-cutting but as with all these photos the marks on / in the paint don't photo well at all.
Image
Dint in rear of wing, you can see the wing has 'split' on the inside edge
Image
Marks are rubber, other marks in paint dont show, damage at front edge of rear door.
Image
Rear door, lots of chips / marks in door paint not showing.
Image
Damage on rear arch, you can see how much its pushed in.
Image
Rear edge of arch
Image
Wheel at same angle as when hit.
Image
Wing mirror, the main metal bit is cracked (might be okay with araldite), you can hardly see the scratched glass.

Going by these pics its very little damage, I can't believe how little there is considering the impact speed and how hard we hit, I've been VERY lucky, just need a full side respray and a few parts.

I would agree that the damage does not look that bad but I believe you when you say it is worse. I think you have been very lucky...not much consolation I know but none-the-less....

I'm off to NZ too....

Well, you're wrong because speeding doesn't count as a detection using the Home office counting rules. It is not classed as a 'crime'.

So does that means that they spend less on traffic than on serious crime? That is even worse as they are spending PUBLIC money on a service that they cannot monitor. What is only way to control any system/mechanism/process? Input, Output and feedback. Where is the feedback in the overall stats for traffic?

The number of motorists with "SP30" or worse on the licence as recorded at DVLA.
