Side swiped in hit and run.

Post by Richspec » Thu May 24, 2007 11:53 pm

Coming home tonight i came round a corner and met a car coming (at speed) towards my side of the road
Squeezed left as much as I dared (didn't really have much time to register WTF was happening) and BANG!!!!!!!!
Exit my wing mirror. Immediately turned round and headed back at warp speed but no sign of the car :x :x
Toured the area, local industrial est, nearest village, but no sign of the git :x
Went to nearest cop shop (drive right past it en route) and.....its closed, 9-5 opening only  Rang the 'assistance' bell but no joy, there's vans in the yard and lights on but nobodies home
Damage, as far as i can see is
Wing mirror, only the internal bit left,
Rear Door stick on trim, half gone
Dents on rear arch round wheel, front and rear section
Scratched alloy (standard wheel)
Probably scratches on doors, but can't tell till road muck is washed off.
So pissed off its not true!!

Is the S4 mirror different to a 'standard' audi of the same age??

Sorry to hear that, lucky he wasn't a bit more out of control..it could have been a lot worse.

I guess the car would have left colour paint marks so that might help. It might be that when it is reported the old bill will say that they know of a car that colour caught somewhere else or having been stolen etc.

As for finding the driver...what if he is a pikey (sorry PC gone out of the window here) and had loads of mates?

Plod will do nothing, absolutely zip... Thats far too much hassle trying to track someone down, it is easier to hang out of their window, point a speed gun at you and catch you doing 90mph on a motorway in good weather in good conditions with no-one around you on a straight section of road when you are trying to get to bedside of your dying gran.

Sorry Rob..seem to have caught a nerve there! I was trying to offer Rich a ray of hope! But I realise the folly of my ways!

Sadly thats exactly the response i expect to get from the boys in blue, my dad was in a head on on the same road, again the other car was totally on the wrong side of a bend and 100% to blame, and admitted fault to the police who attended, all he got was sent to a driving improvement course, dad got a payout eventually on the write off, but what a load of hassle it was.
All I've got is a vague description of the other car.

Gonna wash the car off and have a better look in daylight.

Spot on analysis. There's no revenue generated for Police PLC by the type of incident experienced by Richspec. Doing a non-profit service to the public that pay their wages is their very lowest priority  ... and means they have to do paperwork that doesn't end up with money in their coffers.

Far easier for them to sit on their apathetic arses and focus on the easy targets that generate revenue - such as motorists doing a few miles per hour over the limit.

I mean: just because you're called a public servant doesn't actually mean you have to do a service for the public does it now ... ?

W*nkers.

P.S. I was a passenger in a car (my girlfriends) that was involved in a hit-and-run 3 months ago ... some prick did a runner from a gas station without paying and smashed into a car that subsequently smashed into us ... but the c*nt did a runner ... plod took nearly 30 mins to respond to the 999 call i made to them (and we were in the town centre ... exactly 1/4 mile from the police station)... and when they turned up they couldn't have been more indifferent if they'd tried, and in fact thought it was all a big joke (they actually laughed as we described the accident to them!)! ... both myself and the GF were taken to hospital - my parting shot to the cops from the ambulance as they were taking us away was that I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire and that they were the most ineffectual w*nkers i'd ever had the misfortune to come across ... utter w*nkers. 3 months on and we've heard nothing from them ... f*cking rubbish service from a f*cking rubbish organisation .... c*nts.

I think as far as motoring offences go, you are probably right S4TAN. To balance up a bit, just over 7 years ago myself and my wife (now ex-wife) returned from holiday. She spoke with her Mum and went down to visit her. In the 30 minutes from leaving home to arriving at her Mums, the old girl had popped her clogs. Wifey was a bit distraught and called the old bill because she couldn't get into the flat. The old bill that turned up were very compassionate and dealt with everything professionally and efficiently.

And this bit of praise comes from a man who has just copped 3 points for speeding.

Perhaps the old bill should be paid by results in everything they do? £ 60 for a speeder, £ 250 to catch a mugger, £1m to catch a murderer etc etc. Might make them a bit more results orientated.

yeah - fair point Paul. But I won't change my opinion about the way they dealt with me and my GF (whose car was totally written off and we were both injured - her more than me - they simply didn't give a toss)

My brother saw someone dent 2 door panels on his car while he was walking out of Tesco. He was with 3 other people at the time too. So they took the number plate of the car the woman got into, made a mental note of what she looked like, spotted the damage she had created on her own car, then went to the police. Apparently if you're in the car when it is hit, nobody else in the car can be a witness (for obvious reasons), but if you're not in the car, anybody can be a witness. So essentially he had 3 witnesses and the number plate of her car. The police took over a month before contacting her (they lost my brother's first statement), when they could have gone round to her house and looked at the damage on her car. She had had the damage on her car repaired and denied all knowledge, so they said they couldn't take the case further due to lack of evidence. Absolutely useless. It was my old car too, so it really annoyed me.
