Very rare i'm overly impressed with a car, but this new Golf R has certainly over delivered. Jumped on one of the silly Lease deals late in August so was for a car already in build & as such a totally bog standard White Estate.

Such an easy car to drive sedately, yet have a balls out giggle in when selecting race Mode. Certainly quicker than the look of the car would suggest & will be going to a good friend for some upgrades at the end of the Month that should create somewhat of a Monster.

Loving the Apple CarPlay & the VW variant of the Virtual Cockpit. Certainly well loaded with Tech for a VW & the new 7spd DSG gearbox is lightning quick.

Just managed to download Speed Camera POI's into the cars Infotainment, so another bonus.

So freshening having a car that over delivers against expectations & appears very good at everything. Looking forward to some spirited drives over the Winter months like what you Quattro boys enjoy:)

Subscribe to pocketgpsworld if you don’t already, downloaded the Other .csv single file UK camera database. Use VW Car-Net & add the Files to a newly created POI file & then upload to the car. Select that Data (call it something like Fixed Speed Camera & Mobile Speed camera as separate files for both) & then select them as visible POI’s within Sat-Nav settings.

Is a bit of a ballache. Can talk you through it if need be, drop me a message or email if you’d like or are you local if easier? Only downside is that option doesn’t offer audible alerts so i’ve Found a fella on eBay that sells the POI files WITH audible alerts, so gonna try that next week as may be a better option.

Speed camera POI and a car that over delivers? And drive in the winter? Sounds like you are missing the RSs.

Never seen any Audi with Speed Cameras displayed :audibash: Over delivers is stretching the RS thing a little :bigblink:

You can have drive in the Winter though.

What’s happened to the suspension? :drink:

They’re certainly great fun & possibly the ultimate all rounder.

The pocketworldgps download POI thing can be done with my car too.

I did not know that. Ended up binning the pocketworldgps download & found a mush on eBay selling a better file for £5 as his included better graphics & audible alerts which the pocketgpsworld files didn’t.

How do you get additional POI’s into an RS6? Does it require some hacking or simply a straightforwardly download?

Sounds very similar to the golf I think. I didn't do it but looked into it previously. From memory it was something like download the POI then upload them onto the Audi connect site and then upload the new output from the connect site onto the Sat nav like you would any other updated map.

Copied from another forum:

The A3 8V sat nav system can import custom points of interest (POI) files, which means you can have icons appear on the maps to show things of interest. This includes speed cameras.

So, off I tootle to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com and download the latest database. You need to select the Garmin format. Once you have that, the fun begins!

Take yourself to My Audi > Special Destinations (don't worry - you don't need to have Audi Connect) and then go to the section to do with personal POIs. Add the Garmin images and also a suitable icon (as attached) and then you can create some lists. I named them 'Speed Cameras - SPECS' and 'Speed Cameras - GATSO' for the two main types that I want to know about. There are others and they are all downloaded as separate files from PocketGPSWorld, so easy to show / hide the ones you want.

After a few moments it is then possible to download the files from Audi and put them on an SD card and copy them to your MMI system.

The final but is to enable the map to show certain POIs on the maps at all times.

However, there is a catch. For some reason the POIs are set to only show up at a certain zoom level, so when trundling along a motorway, the icons are not shown. So I delve in to the data files and then find the appropriate part of the code and change the zoom level.

(For the technical people, edit the file categories.pc so that the zoom level is set to max=30.)

Awesome, now I have cameras shown while driving along.

Perfect!

No warnings like a real detector / alert system, but darn useful when on main roads. Of course this does not help with mobile cameras, but it's still more useful than nothing. I might add the mobile and red light cameras in due course, but that means updating weekly, which is quite a chore!
