As the post suggests, looking at replacing the runaround with either one of the above.

Obviously my natural reaction is to say the R, but I'm not sure on the extra 4K. Both drive well, and the R feels as fast as the RS4. Has anyone got a mapped Mk7 GTI? How much difference did it make? I have thought about a Focus RS, but there is no way the Mrs would drive it and its too shouty for me (It think). Anyone other thoughts welcome.

Like you, i'd suggest the R as if you choose the GTI you'll likely always come head to head with the many R's on the road & wish you'd chosen one of them.

I've been out in a couple & to be honest didn't think they felt all that fast, but i guess that depends on what you're used to. Certainly didn't match the drama & feel of the B7 RS4, but still accomplished none the less.

I have the R and its well worth it in my opinion. Loads of fun.
