Hi DK, with so many cars in the JLR brand now it's hard to tell which you've bought from the badge. Is it a RRS or a Disco Sport?

Which Bimmer is going that you're pleased to see the back of? I assume you still have & like the 140i?

The FFRR paid a visit to my friends at DMS on Tuesday & although wasn't really slow before, is proper giggle inducing now. I've now fallen for the car & really enjoy driving it, my only criticism is it's taken a month to get used to it's size & the endless features/options & it required a full Software upgrade on Monday as the updated MY17 Infotainment stalled a couple of times & certain functions were not behaving as they should intermittently.

It's just a 420d going back

The M140i is the wife's car and that's a long termed

This is the first JLR product I've had with ICTP....I've not yet got a data sim for it

But first impressions is it's still behind the frankly brilliant iDrive

But what is it?

I'm guessing Disco Sport as the dash doesn't look like the RRS (could be wrong).

I think the ICTP can cut it with the outgoing iDrive, but is a little behind the new system in the new 5 & 7's. I didn't think i would but do prefer the Touch Screen over the dials & buttons on the M5 & most functions are very quickly accessed, i also think the Voice control in the RR is considerably better that it was in my BMW & i'm now finding myself controlling more than just the phone which is all i used it for in the past. Overall it's far from perfect & mine went in for a full software upgrade on Monday (obviously before DMS breathed on it Tuesday).

The POI icons are not the prettiest i've ever seen, but i can live with that given it has speed cameras displayed & gives audible/visible warnings

As for Data SIM's, i opted for a pre loaded 12mth 12GB SIM which was i think £30 from 3. In the FFRR you need the middle sized SIM card (i thinks it's Micro but defo check).

Correct

It's a great spec with black pack, Meridian Surround, Pano roof etc

Only thing is it's Damn slow !

First impressions of the ICTP are really poor

Imagine how I felt having never experienced JLR Infotainment before this car? Has taken the best part of 4 weeks to set the car up.

Assuming yours is a MY17, a fairly major update was released a couple of weeks ago which I believe was purely for early build MY17 car's, which mine was. The update has definitely improved performance & rectified a few minor issues I was having with mine. I'm getting used to it now & quite liking it.

Must be a vas improvement over your F Type though?

On the RRS they have the SDV6 which is 300bhp but it's a very old lump, so on the FFRR the only Diesel V6 is the TDV6
Not strictly true, Paul. The TDV6 lump is older, it's all to do with the turbos that are now used.

Range Rover TDV6 uses a single turbocharger. Range Rover Sport SDV6 uses a parallel-sequential turbo setup, hence how it can get significantly more power.

The older TDV6 (twin turbo) in the RRS was replaced by the SDV6 in early 2014. The TDV6 found in your FFRR is the single turbo development of the older twin turbo TDV6 lump.

Gratuitous pic of my SDV6 RRS AD... ;)

I heard the opposite regarding age Kev, but i could have been misinformed. Agreed the SD has the twin scroll turbo & the TD a single turbo, but that the TDV6 is an all new (not sure when it was new though) engine, although i'm sure if it's based on an earlier engine but it uses lighter components, hence it's lighter weight to the SDV6, even allowing for the additional turbo on the SD.

Also read that the SDV6 is available on the FFRR in the US, but for some reason not in the UK.
