About To Order!!

Post by W8PMC » Fri Oct 03, 2014 2:37 pm

As these cars are fairly rare & therefore very little available to read up on them, are their any obvious things to be aware of with these little pocket rockets &/or any must have options??

The wife has sold her Q5 so we need to get her replacement ASAP as she's taking a shine to my F10 M5 & that's not going to work.

Very few of these cars built & available so we're kind of limited. What we have found is:

Audi S1 Sportback (Brand New)
Misano Red
Daytona Grey Contrast Roof
Technology Pack
Heated/Folding Mirrors
Nappa Leather (Grey/Tomato)
Heated Front Seats
3 Spoke Multi Function Flat Bottom Steering Wheel
Red Brake Calipers

Pretty sure that's it although i've a feeling it has the 18" wheels but i can't recall the exact detail.

I drove one of these at an Audi Sport event a few weeks ago & giggled for the entire drive as was so much fun. The car felt solid, planted & went like <beep> of a shovel.

What's the real world expected MPG for these cars & what are they like to live with? Thanks in advance.

See my signature for real calculated (not DIS computer) MPG after first two tanks. 29ish...
The base spec car is mega as it is. The one you mention has the tech pack which is a big step up in tech (unsurprisingly) related to Nav/media etc and well worth it.
I'm an option whore so have them all, but it's more about the drive with the S1. Feel free to ask me any questions on any option tho! Full spec here http://www.a1-forum.co.uk/a1forum/viewt ... p?t=118722

Oh <beep>, that's terrible MPG & i was hoping ti would be a lot nearer the 40mpg Audi claim. May have to rethink this as the average on our Q5 was about 27mpg over thousands of miles so expected much better from the S1 :audibash:

The wife will drive it sensibly however so maybe she'll again more but sub 30 sounds a long way off what Audi claim. It was the extended drive i had a few weeks ago that sold me. The car was a pocket rocket, but given it's a cash purchase the wife's not intent on going for a very high spec car as this will be money lost come resale. Likely keep it until the warranty runs out through.

Don't forget;
1. These are the first 2 tanks, so I was playing, a lot!
2. It still only has 600 miles on it, so will loosen up and give better MPG

Mid/high 30's are fully achievable if I drive it sensibly now, and I expect to gain an average of 3-4mpg once the engine is bedded in. So the 40mpg Audi suggest I would say is pretty close to real life if you have a light foot.

At the same time you don't buy a car like this to worry about mpg too much. My SQ5 got only 28 average, but it's a MUCH bigger car... http://www.fuelly.com/car/audi/sq5/2013 ... rdi/257511 (note the link defaults to US MPG, click the UK units on the top left of the page)

Thanks.

My questions may just have become less relevant as i don't think our babies car seat will fit in the back seat & we basically had to remove all the wheels from the pram to have any chance of getting it in the boot so i think the S1 is just too small for our requirements. Wife will be test driving one this week so this may change but i feel she'll struggle with the very limited space.

The boot on the A1 is a joke. The floor is so comically high for a car that doesn't have a spare!

You not fancy an S3? Hell of a lot of car for the money, 300 brake, if you can avoid going mental on the options list I think its the current bargain new Audi

Yea but you can get a Golf R (same car as S3) for a LOT less money and with more spec. If I was going S3 I'd buy a Golf R.

Would need to be the Sportback as we really need 5 doors. Audi S3 is a lovely car but overpriced for what it is & what we want. Ideally trying to keep this car under £30k.

Same applies to the Golf R as although an excellent car, even with just some basic options such as Nav & heated seats you're well over £30k which for a VW Golf is just too much. Also not a fan of the current models styling.

Oddly enough Sue mentioned Mini's the other day (don't laugh). I've never given them a 2nd look but after a bit of digging, this new range seems like an interesting option.

You are saying £30k for a golf is too much.

I would argue a penny over £20k is way too much for a A1

Golf R's really are a superb piece of kit, really classy too and stand out aesthetically as something special.

But tbh, in the real world, a GTI or GTD is more than enough.

My mrs had a 1.4T A1 122PS S-Line and was great fun...not sure you need much more tbh....certainly not £25k+!

Oh right. Totally agree but Audi is the premium VAG brand so you'd expect to pay more for an Audi & rightfully so. Could not justify over £30k for a Golf but likewise £28k for an S1 is rich. Decided against the S1 as it's just far too small. Loved the car & it's performance but it's too impractical.

I agree - over 20k for the A1 2.0 TDI S line is nuts (3dr not 5dr, S line not black edition)

Don't get me wrong, I think the Black Ed looks superb with xenons and rotors, but if it was my money, I'd go for the [newer] A3 everytime
