I agree - over 20k for the A1 2.0 TDI S line is nuts (3dr not 5dr, S line not black edition)

Don't get me wrong, I think the Black Ed looks superb with xenons and rotors, but if it was my money, I'd go for the [newer] A3 everytime
Not driven any of the other A1's as had no interest in them so can't comment. The S1 is a fabulous small car though & let's not forget it's a 220bhp Quattro pocket rocket that both looks & handles superbly. Yes it may be a tad over priced but only in the same way a decent Spec C7 RS6 is £100k but you can get a good enough 2.0TDi for £70k less.

Likewise I've not driven the S1 - but I have driven the S3 and it's most definitely a 300bhp quattro pocket rocket that both looks & handles superbly

I have driven a couple & they are fun but budget for this car is sub £30k & we want brand new so the S3 (Sportback) is most certainly way over budget.

A1 or A3? They've dropped the 185 A1.

Wife in the end decided on a new Mini Countryman Cooper S with most option boxes ticked including the Sports Package which is basically the full JCW kit without the extra 18bhp.

Actually really enjoying this car which i'm pained to say. Looking forward to binning the RFT's but apart from that it's great fun, goes well & returns an average 36-38mpg which having come from a 2.0TFSi Q5 is having a very positive impact on the wallet.

Bloody hell, they built and delivered that car fast! Or was the MINI from stock?

Regarding the Q5, the last of the old generation 2.0 turbo petrols are pretty poor on fuel aren't they? I gather the current generation Golf GTi / R, Audi S1 and S3 are far better in this respect

Some great footage of the S1 moving around in the corners in evos car of the year test.

It was (to be) the Sales Manager's car (hence the very high spec) so basically as they were moving it into the showroom we did a deal on it & they rolled it back out.

The Q5 although an epic car & we had it from new for 5 years was a greedy bitch & we could never break into the 30's mpg which was a shame. Average over 77k miles was about 26mpg which is worse than my 700bhp M5 :audibash: Saying that it served us extremely well & never missed a beat. Also held its value as we sold it privately for just under 50% of it's new cost.

It was me who was pushing the wife towards the S1, but in reality it was just too small & she'd have struggled with even the simplest weekly tasks such as shopping & taking the little one anywhere so it wasn't to be.

Yeah the boot on the A1 is pathetic and made even worse by the silly high false floor [with the battery underneath slap bang in the centre from memory?!?!?!]
