Noisy brakes
Noisy brakes
Hi All,
Hoping someone can help. I have recently bought my dream car, a 2017 RS6 Avant Performance. It's an outstanding car but the brakes squeal. Particularly noticable with window open at low speed when parking.
The discs are scored and have a fairly significant lip. The pads appear to be more than 50% worn. What are the likely causes? Is it likely to be overly worn discs or could it be something less?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Noisy brakes
My brakes did this from pretty much brand new. The only way to temporarily stop them squealing that I’ve found it to get them really hot. A few high speed stops from errrr 70mph should do the trick. Just seems to be an undesirable feature of our brakes, goes for the RS6 too.
Re: Noisy brakes
+1 on the 6 - mine seem squeak when they haven't been used much - as R33 said, a few high speed stops / hard braking solves the problem, squealing also goes away in the rain.

Re: Noisy brakes
Never had any squeaking with my 2016 Performance in 30k. 2nd set of pads were Ferodo DS2500 and they didn't squeek either.
Re: Noisy brakes
You obviously drive yours properly then
Re: Noisy brakes
Yep that's the problem
Slow stop start traffic tends to build up pad deposits on the disk and leads to squeaking and when light braking at speed will give vibration at the wheel
Ok ive not had a RS7 but had RS4s since 2000 and never had any issues with the brakes vibrating occasionally ill start to get a squeak
But a good blast and some hard braking clears it up

I use the above method every time i change my disks and have had no issues for the last 20 years on all my RS4s
Hope this helps

Re: Noisy brakes
Common issue - as noted before, get up to 100-110kmph on a empty piece of highway and JAM on your brakes, almost come to a complete stop - repeat 2 more times. Then coast and dont touch the brakes at all for as long as you can, let them cool right down.
That'll fix it for a few weeks then you'll have to do it again

Re: Noisy brakes
Pads will typically squeal when worn down - some worse than others (e.g. the OEM Brembo's)
They'll also develop a deposit/glazing from city driving.
