I am somewhat lost. So Audi have made such a huge leap forward that they are now producing a S class car which provides equal performance to an RS6, now has turbos so is tunable to well beyond and is twice as economical for half the money? Forgetting the usual driver involvement and styling stuff for a moment - why would anyone by an C7 RS??!
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

That was my point earlier - the RS is going to have to be very very good. Worth pointing out that there are internal differences to the engine so it remains to be seen how well the S6 can handle tuning. Also we need to see if the DCT gearbox in the RS6 is going to be different as thats traditionally the weakpoint of the forced induction cars.

Is it certain the C7 RS will get a DCT gearbox (I honestly haven't read anything about it)? I can't help thinking a truckload of torque, AWD and the weight of a '6 wouldn't leave a DCT with much reliability. I'm basing this on the new RS6 having 30% more torque and HP than the C7 S6.

Exactly - I suspect that it won't get the DCT. It'll be an interesting outcome - if it does get it then the DCT gearbox is probably stronger than it looks. If it doesn't then it immediately puts a ceiling on the B8 RS4, RS5 and C7 S6.
I don't know of any big torque applications of the DCT gearbox - most big hp cars (if not all) seem to be N/A

Errrm, R35 or Veyron? I'm sure Audi will get the S-Tronic to handle more torque I just didn't think they were there yet, hence my comment. How much torque can the R-Tronic / E-Gear hold? It's still pretty old hat though.

Haha - yes, forgot about the Veyron.
I think thats a bit... ambitious and hardly a routine off the shelf unit though ;)

Granted GTR transmission is impressive too but again such a bespoke application (isn't it something stupid like each engine is matched exactly with one transmission?)

In terms of packaging both are off from the norm - GTR gearbox in the back with a second driveshaft to the front and the Veyron being midmounted and a realtively short engine (not much longer than a v8 - v10's and v12 are generally longer) makes things easier.

I don't think the RS6 is going to get a bespoke gearbox... mildly tweaked, possibly, but the DCT gearbox audi use is a generic design that isn't going to be suited to massive torque.

This looks amazing in the flesh, saw the S7 as well but couldn't get a good pic through the crowd! It's Johannesburg fashion week sponsored by Audi so this was at local shopping centre. This specked S6 was equiv GBP95k ouch

the thing to consider with the S6 of course is traditionally the depreciation has been like falling off a very very big cliff !

I wouldn't go for one under 16, more trouble than its worth, not worth the risk

Love to post an honest reply, but I'll not!

New S6 or last gen RS6 - every time I see an RS6 I want one, saw a new S6 and didn't! The end.
