Winter Tyre Recommendation?

As a now happy owner of a '12 C7 S6 Avant I am in need of some winter tyres.

What tyres have you used and would you recommend them?

I'm a Michelin Pilot Sport fanboy but all my winter tyres have been Continental TS830p's, they're superb up to about 14 Celsius when they can start to overheat. Although I'm now going to try run the winter using the new Michelin PS4S's, as they work much better in the colder temps so far than the MPSS and other tyres of that ilk I've had before.

My PS4S's are coming off this week and the Sottozeros (Winter 240 Serie II) going on.
Never had any problems keeping the Pirellis on until it's actually quite warm - middle of May in 2017 before they came off!

I've used various brands of winter tyre on both my cars for many years now and as long as they're a premium brand they're always better than any summer tyre when it's cold.

Hmm ... and I'm just about to put a set of P4's on, am I mad? Mostly London driving, but am going to Yorkshire for Christmas period which could be a bit snowy.

I decided to go ahead and choose Michelin P4's to replace the original Pirello Zero's which (except for one I caught on a kerb) have done 18K. The more I read about 'winter tyres' the more it feels like a marketing process - we don't tend to have horrendous weather, at least not in the South of the UK ... and as I'm not expecting to deal with snow drifts on my Christmas up North I think I'll survive!

Therefore I just got 4 Michelin PS4's (255/40/R19) for £720 (a few penny's less actually) using offer coder 4Mich40 - gave me £40 off the total price which I think is very reasonable (blackcircies).

Edit : forgot to mention the offer was Blackcircles!

As a side note - I didn't realise until tonight that blackcircles is owned by Michelin ... interesting as I had to hunt for the PS4's (not PS4S's) on its website!

I have Dunlop Wintersports on my S7, I had the same on my C6 RS6 and they were great on the RS6. Wasn’t very impressed with them yesterday on the S7. It felt really nervous, edgy and always scrabbling for grip, not at all like my previous Audis with winter tyres. It still got on OK and made it up steep snow covered hills but it really felt twitchy, I guess this is more the car than the tyres? Anyone else found the same with their S6?

I then took my wife’s Touareg out which has winter tyres and it felt like a predictable, unstoppable tank in comparison. All very odd, especially as her car has Pirelli winters on that I hated when I had them on the RS6.

looks like michelin pa4 get the thumbs up over sottozero 3 or continental ts850p. lots of complaint about pirellis (not winter, it has to be said) on this site.

PA4s on! Noticeably less harsh than the Goodyear F1s.

Odd thing happened though when I got back in the car. It was stuck in P. Couldn't get it into R, N or D.

Is there something I did or didn't do before they took the wheels off, like stick it in Neutral, or something?

If it has air suspension, you need to select jacking mode in the mmi before you jack / remove wheels iirc
