IMO it would really suit Dks old motor. I think they work with black optics.

Some cars are spot on out of the box and I believe the C6 RS6 is one of those rare cars. You don't see many pimped Lamborghini Miuras, Lotus Cortinas or Lancia B20s. The more people that keep these cars standard, the more they will hold their aesthetic and monetary value in the long term.

Everyone has their own tastes, but outward mods such as spacers, blacked out lights, bigger wheels, extra spoilers, etc, projects the wrong image of what these cars are about.

IMO if you want to modify a car in such a way, then modify a Golf.

I shall now retire to my dressing room and don my favourite nomex suit. Actually, I'll put on two, as I expect lots of flames.

IMO, that is the most important part of the reply. You used it yourself so you are covered. We all have our own opinion, most are wrong though

C7 S6 - 1950 Kg
C7 A6 3.0 TFSI - 1790 kg
Lightest one is the 2.0 TDI at 1640 kg

The 3.0 TFSI is a quattro..... so how the hell is the S6 160 kg more? Extra toys as standard? Heavier DSG gearbox vs a manual 3.0?

Whilst I'd love an RS6 V10, over the last few weeks following from DKs comments (and sale of his V10) and a ride in a 450+ bhp B5 RS4, I really cannot see myself buying one now. How much is enough? My S4 is quick enough, I already find myself driving too fast. The RS4 was staggering and underlines the fact I don't need 570 / 600 / 700 horsepower!

I do like the current S6 with the new engine, and whilst I do only 5000 evening and weekend miles, fuel consumption cannot be ignored, the new engine is significantly better. I think the last of the prefacelift V8 manual S5s or the last of the prefacelift manual S4 B8s with added MRC would be the most logical progression for me - maybe the present S6 if I had a family and needed the space, but they have a lot of depreciating to do before they are realistic and justifiable for me

Just a curious question?.

The wife's Q5 is in for a service & a couple of pre end of Warranty fixes/updates & we were given a TT-S Roadster as a loan car (she's considering a TT-S or TT-RS as a repalcement later this year). Long story short, they need it for another day or 2 but we're off down South this morning for a long weekend away & youngest is coming with us so the TT-S Roadster wasn't suitable due to lack of rear seats. Asked for a replacement that would be nice for a longer Journey & collected a brand new (assuming it's a C7) S6 last night with a few tasty options. Tis a 12 plate with 130 miles on the clock & has the new 4.0 TFSi V8 engine which i believe adorns all the new bigger S's although in slightly different levels if tune.

Question is this, according to the Audi figures the S6 saloon is 414bhp, but can hit 62 in 4.6secs which i believe is a tad quicker than the same power but much smaller & lighter B7 RS4, but also the same time as the much more powerful & about the same weight C6 RS6. How can this be & also with a combined MPG of 30?

Only driven a few miles so far & i have to be honest it's a true Q car, but when the loud pedal is buried it takes off a fair lick & the styling along with the interior is awesome. Not quite the size inside as my new A8, but will defo make a superb long distance cruiser.

no the C7 is c. 200kg lighter than the C6

i know the C6 interior has been around since 2005/6, but open the door and get into a well specific RS 6, and no way does it feel dated with those bad boy supersport seats, chunky flat bottom wheel, carbon interior, alcantara dash etc etc

genuinely preferred the interior of my RS 6 vs. the '62 plate A8 and it has everybit as much tech

No idea why so defensive David, but hey ho. If you feel i'm knocking the C6 RS6 then that's down to your perception as i'm purely making valid points based on experience & opinion. The Interior is considerbaly more modern but in a car that's the next generation & 6+yrs newer you would expect that no?

Not saying it's better as that's a matter of opinion, i however prefer the newer interior & do appreciate technology so DO like the different parking camera aspects, head up display, floating/bigger DIS, pop out Nav/Media screen with bigger display, Google maps nav option, better connectivity options. I do agree the Wi-Fi access point is probably a tad OTT, but i'm sure it has it's uses.

No idea what a tuned S6 would go like & not really a valid point saying a tuned RS6 would kill the S6 as that's fairly obvious, but not sure tuning would be an activity most S6 owners would undertake as that would lead me to think they should have gone for an RS6 in the 1st place, however given it's size/power/weight etc. it on paper is far from sluggish & as said, according to Audi will match the new RS4 & C6 RS6 up to law breaking speeds. Over 100 i've no idea, but i only play at those speeds on track & i can't see the S6 being an exceptional track weapon.

Totally agree that no-one buys a performance car for it's fuel consumption & given my previous few cars i think that's well demonstrated, however as an all-rounder which is attractive to me the new S6 is possibly the perfect next car. Of course it won't be everyones perfect car but for an RS6 owner that wants the next gen, wants to retain most of the performance whilst at the same time reducing fuel bills i'd say the new S6 would certainly be of interest & at just North of RS4 money it can't be a bad proposition.

My circumstances require around 70% business driving which in the main in 200+ mile motorway jaunts & 30% driving for fun, so a car that can do both very well whilst returning a fairly good MPG when cruising is almost the perfect balance for me.

I have one of the new A8's & although a certain step up from the C6, it's only half way between the C6 & C7. Some of the newer tech is in my car, but the C7 takes it further which is to be expected given the current A8 is about 24mths old as a model.

Will do a full write up later this week on my thoughts/findings but it's fair to say i think it's an exceptional all-rounder & has captured my attentions away from the new M5 for sure.

Agreed However i have modified a few of my previous cars, but do like the idea of a capable weapon OOTB. Audi have many of these in their stable & the C5/C6 RS6 as well as the B5/B7 RS4 are certainly up there. In fact i only had a mild tune applied to my B7 RS4 to take better benefit of the Milltek.

If not wanting to scream around at warp factor all/every day, then i feel the new S6 can do most of what it's RS cousins can do, but using less fuel, a little more up to date (for now) & at a lower price point. Also & the point i feel is one of the new S6's biggest benefits, it's quite the Q car in certain colours. The loaner i had was a dark grey & hardly stood out from other new A6 S-Lines. Nowadays & having come from a GT-R i quite like that, however i'm probably just getting old

granted, however the other cars in the C&D test (F10 M5, C63AMG) show that actually the S6 is a fast car off the line. Only starts to suffer when the lack of ultimate power starts to show through.

For most people that circa 4 seconds is going to be just fine.
The new RS6 is going to have a lot more than just the same engine with a bit more "go". The C6 models had clear daylight between them but now sharing fundamental engine types is going to close things.

Agree the DSG box is going to the be the limiting factor. No idea just how strong they are and where the weakspots are.
