New S7 Owner and Modding

Post by R33 » Tue May 09, 2017 3:18 pm

Boy is this part of the forum dead so I may just be speaking to myself here while the tumble weed blows past, but here goes anyway……..

I sold my C6 RS6 a few weeks back and bought a mega spec 2012 S7, I just couldn’t justify an RS7’s price as a station car so went for an S7 instead. I love the car, huge step forward from the C6 in terms of interior, tech, gearbox, ride and handling although the steering isn’t the best. The biggest thing I’m missing though is speed. It’s quite rapid and when you watch the speedo it pulls the big numbers quite quickly but it doesn’t feel fast.

To start to remedy the speed issues I’m booked in at MRC next week for a stage 2 map. I’ve also fitted a REVO RS7 airbox to it (total b1tch to install) which will hopefully help when mapped. I hope this will get me into the 520-540bhp bracket and I’ll see how it feels then. I guess after this it’s RS7 turbos and exhaust but I have 2 concerns with that, noise (I’m not 17) and the durability of the gearbox.

I’m looking for any other experience from owners of the S6 or S7 in how they’ve got on with mods, what gains they have got and reliability since modding. If there are no replies I’ll post my experiences as and when anyway.

Some of us browse by new posts not by forum so we read threads from all forums. Keep the updates coming, we are reading.
An S7 with exhaist can sound awesome if you want some good noise. And a remap will put it close to an RS7 speed wise. Not sure what gearbox you have though. I have a feeling it's an s tonic type box rather than the ZF8 auto in the RS cars?

Cool, I'm not alone ;)

Yes it's a dual clutch S-Tronic. I think the Sportmile C7 S6 with RS6 turbos was running at 700bhp on an unmodified S-Tronic gearbox but personally I'd rather my gearbox lasted longer than 10 minutes. That's the reason they went with the ZF for the RS6/7 to handle the torque as I understand it.

Oh and when I made this statement "I just couldn’t justify an RS7’s price as a station car so went for an S7 instead" I meant I couldn't justify it to my wife, secret modifications are fine ;)

I visited MRC on Tuesday this week and I'm very pleased with the result, can't remember the exact result but after the air filter and S2 map it's around 520bhp and 819nm. The big difference is the way it drives. It's still quiet and compliant but it feels fast now. Like it should have done out of the box. It's not modded C6 fast by any stretch but it does the job and will do till I can land an RS7. In short I'm very happy with it now.

Superb! Milltek to come? Or just enjoying the stealth?

This video cracks me up every single time....

Damn can't see that at work, one for home later.

I think I'm enjoying the stealth. I'd like a bit more V8 noise but I've always found the likes of Milltek too loud, even resonated ones so I think I'll stick to standard to now.

The map is a really good gain though, it does feel much faster but in the usual Audi way of not feeling all that dramatic but just watching the speedo gaining numbers at an alarming rate. I'd say it feels 40-50% faster than standard with a lot more torque throughout the band.

Welcome. I have a stage 1 S6 and that revo box is a real bitch isn't it? Keeps unclipping from the pipe thingy. Do you have any dyno prints as MRC didn't post that one which is a shame. Did they show you WHP before and after? Want more noise why not try the resonator delete its cheap and sounds ways better
