Thoughts on Hankooks?

Post by DrJSL » Wed Jan 08, 2025 1:23 pm

Hi all,

I'm new here, so please be easy.

My daily is a 2017 RS6 Performance, 58k miles on the clock.

My fronts are wearing thin on tread now, and wondered if Hankooks are actually inferior in daily driving?

I got the car with Continental Sport Contact 5's at the front and Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3's at the back. I thought it was a bit cheeky of the OEM dealer to put Hankooks on the back, but actually these have retained a lot of tread.

Obviously the car is heavily front-led....

I normally prefer Michelins. But thinking maybe throw on 2 Hankooks for now, and change all 4 to Michelins in a year or so...

Anyone had any horror stories with these Hankooks at all?

Thanks
JSL

Personally I have PS4S for summer tyre but I’ve only ever heard good things about Hankooks. I nearly got some a couple of years ago when it was almost impossible to find PS4S in the right size (situation is better now).

Audi switched to them as the standard tyre on C8 RS6, if it helps reassure.

Thanks Revilo. I always considered PS4S as the safe choice too.

I suppose it's probably only my inner snobbery telling me Hankook is not good enough... You're right Hankooks are fitted from the factory in the new RS models now (all the way up to the RSQ8 I believe?)

I had the Evo 3’s , as during Covid I couldn’t get the PS4s locally. but they started cracking on the shoulders and around the tread, almost like the heat cycles were killing the rubber.
I now run PS4s and have never had the issue again.
