Hello everyone, I'm hoping to buy a C7.5 RS6 in the next couple of months, but am concerned it might not fit in my garage.

I currently have an R231 SL63 AMG, which gets through the garage entrance fine, but is tight inside in terms of opening the door and getting in and out. Anything more than a couple of cm wider would definitely not work, but the problem is I can't seem to get reliable/consistent measurements for the RS6 to see if it's wider than the AMG. (I think the length of the car will be fine as there's at least 50cm spare at the moment.)

My garage is exactly 250cm wide inside, I wondered if anyone else had their car garaged, and could advise whether that's going to be wide enough to accommodate the RS6?

Thanks so much, that's really helpful, and a lot clearer than most of the other information out there...

Would still be good to hear from anyone who does garage theirs, just to see how feasible it will be given the dimensions of my garage.

Whereabouts are you ? I'm sure someone local will pop round and try it....

That would be awesome if anyone is local - I'm in Folkestone, Kent.

My garage is 5m square (external). I had to knock a hole through to get sufficient length. I park the Beast and a Focus ST in there and it's very tight - both cars need to be tight against their respective walls. It leaves me about 60-70cm to get the door open and that's quite tight for someone my size!!

Thanks for the reply Dave...think I need to get my tape measure out again!

Remember it's the width of the garage door that is the most important element, not the internal width of the garage (if the door is not as wide as the internal width)!

I garage mine in my single garage - but I put an old Ikea 6ft long mirror up (sideways on - and at headlight / lower front windscreen level) on the back of the garage wall so I can drive in forward without risking losing either front fender!!! Also, I put a tennis ball on a string (hanging from the garage roof) placed in such a position to bump against the front windscreen so I don't drive too far in and hit the assorted crap piled up low down against the back wall.

However, it is actually easier to reverse in I find. If I get it spot on I can reverse in without retracting the wing mirros, with about 5cm spare either side (and I've got about 60cm spare to the back wall) once parked inside. Oddly, when I line the car up to drive in forwards, the mirror reflection gives the impression I've got loads of room each side, when reversing in, it's just a case of using the wing mirrors to check the back end of the car is as good as dead centre.

I think the door width will be fine (it's only marginally narrower than the garage itself), the problem is opening the driver door wide enough to get in and out of the car...

If you get a moment, would you mind measuring the internal width of your garage? Mine is c.248cm.

And good tips re the mirror and tennis ball - I have an old Ikea mattress that I will probably put up at the front of the garage to allow me to drive in as far in as I can, whilst protecting the car...

Just did a quick measure in my garage.

Between my two cars there is 600mm which is just about OK for getting in and out - any less and it's a tight squeeze.

The car O/A is about 1.9m and I have about 200mm clear to the column on the pax side.

So in my garage, parked reasonably tight to the pax side I need 2.7m - much less and it would be a constant risk of me not getting in/out.

Hi Mark - just edited my post as my garage entrance is 210cm wide (once inside I have 50cm width either side of the 210cm for doors to be opened) - so if I get the reversing spot on I have about 2cm either side and I can reverse in without retracting the wing mirrors, if I line the car up precisely (of course the reflection in the wing mirrors makes this pretty easy). If I drive in forwards, I get my "width" using the mirror on the back wall of the garage, and retract the wing mirrors before entering the garage (as I won't be able to judge whether I'm dead centre or not as I'm sitting in the driver seat - so whilst I can clearly see I have front fender clearance, I can't accurately assess if I also have wing mirror clearance with the garage door width being so tight) and drive up until the tennis ball hits the windscreen.

Once in, you'll see from the pics that in the middle of the side garage walls, the width of the garage narrows. If I drive in forwards, this narrowing of the walls makes it "very uncomfortable" to try and get in and out of the car, without potentially scratching the door handles against the breezeblocks, and wriggling myself out of the car. Reversing in, the front doors are just short of the breezeblocks (and the entrance to the rear doors behind the end of the breezblocks), giving me plenty of room to get in and out of the car (and to access the rear doors easily). The 4 pics below show the width I have either side getting in when the car is perfectly lined up reversing - it's tight - but doable.

Good luck with your garage, but your width seems more than fine (I'm jealous!), just don't wiggle your front wheels to get your angles right once you're partially in the garage (if reversing) or you'll "kerb" your alloys against the garage door surround, and potentially bend the surround (learned from experience!).

Hi Jools, thanks so much for taking the time to send through all the details, and also the photos, which were really helpful

I've done some more measuring, and unfortunately have come to the conclusion that the space inside the garage is just too tight... Really a shame, as I'd got my heart set on an RS6, but on the bright side, I've just put a deposit on a lovely Misano Red B9 RS5, with every bit of kit possible, so that will help to take my mind off the disappointment!
