Heard the dreaded DRC knocking and booked the car into Audi to investigate.

A split hose was found and has since been replaced (7 to 10 day lead time).

Since then the cylinders could not hold pressure and now have to be replaced. Problem is parts are on back order from Germany.

Anybody know what sort of lead times I can expect? The dealer is being helpful but doesn’t really know.

(Un)helpfully it would appear that the Audi extended warranty folk take a very sequential approach to repairs.

They start with the visible hoses etc. and then move onto investigation work - e.g., remove bumper, re-pressurise, if no pressure held then replace cylinders and after that new shocks.

All of which is fine except for the fact that the parts seem to have a significant delay so at no point is anyone trying to get ahead of the game by ordering all parts and returning any that are not needed (I’ll pay a nominal ‘restocking fee’ to shave weeks or even months off the downtime).

The good news is I get a courtesy car next week as I suspect the car will be off road for a while.

Seems the norm for dealers to replace the valves whenever the fluid has been lost/leaked from a drc system. They usually claim it wont hold pressure or the they have been damaged due to low pressure etc.
I do know that even an empty shock can be recharged fully without having to replace the cylinders etc

Good that some dealers notice this issue, but some even not finds a problem

Funnily enough as soon as they realise you’ve got an Audi extended warranty their appetite to get the work done increases.

If I didn’t have the warranty I would just upgrade to whatever the best non-DRC aftermarket shovks etc. are.

Got my car back.

The final invoice came to £5,550.

- 2 central valves replaced
- 2 shocks replaced
- 1 hose replaced
- Oil and small parts

Audi A6 hire car provided for the 3.5 weeks they had the car.

My extended warranty has cost c£4k to date which when combined with a previous claim of c£1.5k means I am about £3k up on the warranty.

I will probably move the car on in Dec when the warranty expires for no other reason than a facelift M5 is looking like extraordinary value at the moment (which when combined with a tow bar for a bike rack) and a roofbox should mean I don’t miss the estate.

You will sell rs6? How long you had it? Which year model?
