Gearbox Oil

Post by Rich85 » Fri Feb 10, 2023 6:24 pm

Hi

Recently, I have been having some not so smooth gear changes when the box is cold. Once warm, it is pretty much great but upshifts and in particular downshifts can seem quite harsh and lumpy.

I had the car in recently for some famous DRC replacement damper work and had them update the gearbox software as it was out of date. This has only helped slightly but issue still persists. I’m not sure if an standing adaptation was performed at the time of update.

This got me wondering if it is either a mechatronics issue (which seems unlikely as I’ve not seen many mechatronics die) or it’s simply because the gearbox oil is tired. My RS6 currently has 78k on the clock and I know Audi claim sealed for life but I think that is rubbish as fluids always degrade at some point.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Rich
