New Audi Recall

Post by super7 » Wed May 11, 2022 10:24 am

Took my RS6 into Audi to diagnose my oil smelling of fuel and some misfires. Whilst there they said they were going to have to carry out recall work on the car. Apparently it’s a new recall only identified on May 5th effecting a lot of cars with turbo chargers. For RS6’s it’s 2014 - 2017 models.

Short story, the gauze on the turbocharger oil strainer is too small, restricting flow. The associated work on our cars is a 12hr engine strip down and replacement of a LOT of parts (4 pages of parts to be precise). I took a pic of the cover sheet below if anyone is interested. But seemingly next time you’re in for work or if you want to get this sorted you’re looking a a few days in the workshop.

Sounds like a lot of cars will be effected. But at a minimum you get it resolved, courtesy car and a free oil change.

Symptoms of the issue are, loss of power, stalling, misfires and fuel smell in oil.

Found this link about the recall, although US based (where the RS6 wasn’t sold), provides some good detail.

Following with interest - I hope it’s not the HPFPs. Hd to pay for myself!

Unfortunately not, they didn’t leave that bit of paper with me.

Isn’t fuel in the oil usually due to the HPFPs failing, which is a separate issue to the current recall concerning the oil strainer (which ultimately can lead to turbo failure)?

Apparently so… and I told Audi that. So hoping they address that vs the recall. Couldn’t have been clearer when I left it with them. Hopefully get both fixed…
