Hi all,

Got my letter on Tuesday and got a booking for tomorrow (Friday 14/07). Do Audi check for any Turbo issues such as float on the compressor turbine? If not, after the recall work my turbo(s) should fail, Audi could argue the damage was caused after the recall work was applied!

Kenny.
I just spoke to my local Audi dealer who has my RS6 in for the recall, and I didn't realise what the issue specifically was!

I read the recall letter as the 'existing oil strainer gauze for the turbo is too fine' and thus prone to blockage, but once you re-read the letter understanding that the issue is that the strainer can become detached and pass up the feed pipe to the turbo, the wording of the letter becomes a little more abstract!

I took my S6 in on Tuesday after booking it in a week ago. It was booked in for 1 day, with a warning it might go slightly over a day. On Monday they contacted me to say they'd just completed someone else's and it took 2.5 days, so be warned it may be longer than expected. It's 6pm on Thursday - 3 days after dropping it off, haven't heard a thing from them.

I heard about this strainer issue when I bought the car 4 years ago, I've been kinda worried about it ever since, thought about doing it myself but getting a weekend to myself just isn't going to happen - so imagine my delight when I got the invitation to have it done from free - what a result! It can block with small particles, starving the turbo of oil; it can tear, releasing all the particles it's been preventing from reaching the turbo; or it can tear and bits of it get mushed into the turbo along this all the junk it's been filtering. Expensive fix for Audi for some numpty engineer's poor design decision.

Mine has been done. No differences noticeable to me - other than the oil change interval has been reset :)

One thing I did note, I had an extra day delay as Audi said the 'pipe feeding the oil strainer had split and also needed replacing'. Wonder if they were just heavy handed and broke it when taking out the old oil strainer.

Had mine done.

I got a call the day before I was due to book the car in, saying they’d keep the car for 5 days not 2 days. I said unacceptable to be telling me this the day before so we deferred the job for a week and I left the car with them whilst I went away for 10 days - so free secure parking for me and plenty of time for them.

Oil change service was due in 2300 miles so I assume I’ve earnt my stamp in the digital book (it hasn’t appeared in MyAudi yet). Service indicator reset in the car.

Pretty happy really.

Had mine done by Worcester Audi last week. They were very cagey about promising it back in just 1 day. The workshop manager told me that they had done 10 and 9 of them had taken more than 1 day. However, mine became the 2nd. It was back with me by 6pm, cleaned and feeling fine. I'm pretty happy too, all things considered.

Mine was completed by Five Oaks Audi on 28th July. The 21H7 work including the oil service was all completed within 1.5 days.
Both the 21H7 & the OIl service are now showing up within the MyAudi app.

Happy now the work has been completed. :D

Mine went in on Tuesday, not back yet. Wouldn’t change the extra parts either, said they had spoken to Audi technical and wasn’t necessary, I did explain I knew that but whilst it was apart would have preferred it. Suspect they hadn’t ordered in advance and then realised the time delay to get and didn’t want car stranded in workshop.

Their calibration equipment isn’t working, so it needs to go to another dealer for that.

Just a quick follow up on my car. Audi UK have confirmed a recall but apparantley it doesn't cover my car. It only applies to a handful of RS6 & RS7 with the oil strainers made by a certain manufacturer, which doesnt make sense. So now after a week of diagnostics Audi have requested the spark plugs be changed as they were due so no issue there, but they are no stating it could be the fuel injectors. What are the chances of 4 fuel injectors all failing at the same time? Problem being its an engine out job to change them so thats about 4K in labour alone + whatever parts costs.
Looks like I will be massively out of pocket at the end of this.
Unbelieveably I have received the recall letter yesterday, my car has been off the road for 8 weeks now. No idea how Audi are going to do this as they cant just change the parts & get the car going again. I have logged an official complaint with Audi Uk & the ombudsman, so will see what Audi they have to say when they can be bothered to get in touch.
Audi have to the worst I have ever dealt with.
Just a follow up, my vehicle has been into Audi for the recall work. Both turbos are damaged beyond repair due to the blocked strainers. New turbos have been ordered but they are on backorder with no delivery date. Audi haven't even bothered to offer a courtesy vehicle
So I have been without my car for 4 months & now possibley another god knows how long until it is fixed.
