2018 RS6 Performance help needed

Post by Dazman70 » Sat Apr 23, 2022 5:41 pm

Hi gentlemen. I just purchased a 2018 Panther black RS6 Performance from a BMW dealer so no Audi warranty etc. The car has a Miltek exhaust, 22k miles.

However....an interesting situation. When I start her up from cold only 3 LED lights appear on the tachometer, then when at temperature they all disappear. Plus the car revs past 8k in Manual gear mode and in auto S mode in second gear then changes up at (I reckon probably 9K!!!)

So I took car to an Audi dealer for full inspection and service. I said this car must have a re map or chip right? "No sir that's normal for the last of the Audi RS6 Performance cars" was their reply....

Any way they said they couldn't find a chip. They deleted the car's engine ECU and installed the Audi OEM engine map for approx £100. They also gave the car a clean bill of health following the inspection. So I collected the car back and it's still doing it- 3 red LED lights on Tacho that go out when warm plus still revs off over 8K when I push it. The Audi dealer says that's normal. I previously owned a 16 plate RS6 (non performance) and I remember it having all the LED lights that stay on even when warm.

Can anyone help me what is going on here? Is there still a remap on the car or is this as the Audi tech and service manager insisted- Normal?

The car is epic BTW and feels much faster than the previous RS6 I owned.

Thanks in advance...

I'm sure I've read loads of comments that there's a system to warn you not to over-rev until the engine is fully warmed up, presumably it's that.
Have you tried RTFM?

Thanks- yes I know what it's for and yes I have read the f***ing manual but there isn't much about it. So you're saying revving off the tachometer clock is normal. I always thought some red light LED's remained on as a rev limiter indication?

My 2017 Performance, red line/lights go to 6800 when warm and stay there. If you’re saying lights are at 7400 cold and go completely when warm that’s not right - check out the pics of 2018 car rev counters on autotrader to confirm

Something sounds off and I'd put money on it that's it's been mapped, which would leave you very exposed on any warranty claim in the engine and gearbox.

I would join the UK RS6 owners group on Facebook and ask around if anyone knows the car. I know one was return to main dealer after being found out to be mapped and had a dash light issue to.

Thanks for responses. The weird thing is I paid the Audi service centre to delete any map on it and put it back to factory settings at my expense. Perhaps my local Audi dealership are out of their depth. I will take it to a larger Audi dealership who perhaps has better knowledge of RS cars and see if they can get it put back to normal factory. I think I'll get the Miltek exhaust off it too.

Why put off Miltek, it’s not voids any warranty. Plus how it can be faster if it has only 40 Hp more as performance version is 600hp than normal rs with 560 Hp

people do tune these and increase the rpm limit... 8k limit is way further than normal few hundred RPM in raise is usually the norm..

if you take off the miltek DM me please

I’m going to look at my 2016 PE tomorrow and see what that does. I remember from when I had my previous c7 non PE people spoke of the over boost to achieve the extra 40hp but can’t imagine that has anything to do with what yours is doing

So your one doesn't rev off the clock?

Thanks for all the responses. I've booked the car into a much bigger more (hopefully) reputable Audi dealership to see what is going on.

Just a heads up too.. my previous rs4 was from a bmw dealership a year or so ago and had a few issues... I contacted the dealer and they honored the issues so might be worth it if you didn't officially get any warranty cover..

It’s the TCU tune that will be affecting your rev range and not the ECU. Get dealer to check gearbox software.
