Fuel in Oil

At the weekend I had a check over the car as you do and noticed a clear smell of petrol from the oil cap. Car went into Audi Monday after advising me not to drive it. However had an update this evening that the suspected HPFP fault checks out on all the pressure tests and also analysis of the oil the fuel amount is withing tolerance and normal on this.
Question is, am I being fobbed off or is this correct?

Hi bud,
I previously had a similar issue were there was a smell of petrol from my oil.
This may or may not be related but I went to a private garage who did my mapping. Guys changed spark plugs, coil packs and did a full oil change sent me away and asked me to keep an eye on it for about a week. Strangely enough I've had no issues since. I have however heard that all A6/RS6 HPFPs are prone to breaking.
If Audi claim that everything is within tolerance they may be right by manufacturer standards. I'd maybe take it to a reputable private garage and get a second opinion.

Be cautious.
I had to replace my pumps when I noticed excess oil consumption and petrol smell in the oil, but most notably from a cloud of black smoke when accelerating hard.
If you’re getting the black smoke, change the pumps. If the oil smells of petrol then it’s contaminated and not doing its job as intended. Cost me approx £700 all done and been perfect since.
