Tyre help
Tyre help
hello, so i run a set of 21 Ispiri wheels with 295/30/21 tyres (I don't like any stretch).
initially i had a set of Michelin ps4s on the car but there was a horrific noise between 30-40 mph which sounded like a wheel bearing was shot. Long story short I had audi check the car suspension etc over they said car was perfect so I changed out the tyre for some Pirelli Pzero which solved the noise issues. At the time of swapping out the tyres the only other tyre I could get in that size was for for a Mclaren GT in that size.... 3500 mile later and I'm down to 3mm!!!
I can only assume this tyre wear rate is down to the compound used for this tyre plus the GT not being a 2000kg family wagon..
Has anyone run 295 section conti contact 6's before and if they have could you pass some feedback about road noise grip levels and comfort as im looking at changing to these next being a more "normal" tyre..
Many thanks

Re: Tyre help
Can you clarify EXACTLY which Michelin tyres you had, e.g Pilot Sport 4 or Pilot Sport 4s they are quite different.
The 4s has a dual compound, different on the inside and outside.
See, for example: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... &t=1859137

Re: Tyre help
Hi, the ps4s is generally regarded as the best tyre for the car, and I don't think I have heard any comments about low speed noise, so I would suggest that when you changed the tyres something else changed too.
To take out a set of Pzeros in that time I'd suggest that your tracking is out - the car (and tyre wear) are VERY sensitive - it needs to be spot on.
Hope that helps

Re: Tyre help
My thoughts entirely re PS4s tyres which is why I asked. Never had a noise problem with them at all and I've had them for some years now, ever since they first appeared.
I did have a problem on a specific (concrete) section of the M25 near Leatherhead with the previous Michelin tyres - Pilot Super Sports - a very loud drumming/humming noise.
This was due to the spacing of the ridges on the road surface harmonising with the spacing of the tread pattern. It was horrible!

Re: Tyre help
Ps4s very good tires I have no issues with any noise
Re: Tyre help
Had multiple sets of ps4s and agreed they are an really good tyre. Best I've used tbh....
Tracking is fine and tyre wear is even across all 4 tyres so i think it'll purely be down to the different compound

Re: Tyre help
ps4s is known to be the best tire in this segment. I wish mine did not come with brand new Pirellis from the previous owner.
