Winter Tyre Suggestions

Now that I’ve got rid of the Range Rover, the RS6 is now the winter beauty. By previous experience of road tyres in the snow, the car would barely get up my slight inclined driveway, so I’m contemplating a set of winter tyres. 285s on 21 rims.
Any suggestions on brand? Is it worth getting a second set of wheels?
Thanks
Pete

I run winter tyres on mine and wouldn’t consider running through winter on summer tyres.
I run two sets of wheels as I was told that constantly swapping the tyres between a single set of wheels wasn’t a good idea.
The tyres are Dunlop winter sport 4D which I’m pleased with.
Both sets of wheels are 21” OEMs in the starfish style. Unfortunately I found out after I owned 8 of these wheels that they are quite soft…..well documented issue elsewhere.
I got the wheels and tyres from eBay which was painless.
From memory wheels and tyres cost me ~ £1400 all in.

I've had two sets of wheels (winter and summer with appropriate tyres) on both my cars for very many years (though one now has all-season Michelin Cross-Climate2).
it's just so much easier and in the long run probably more economical too.
Your winter wheels don't even need to be anything fancy/expensive and you might (if brakes etc. allow) consider a smaller rim with deeper profile tyres.
(My S8 for example currently has 20" for summer with Michelin PS4S tyres and 18" for winter which I think are Pirelli SottoZero)
As for brands in my experience any "premium" brand winter tyre will work fine in snow etc. I've used most over the years.
My winter wheels tend to go on at the first hint of cold weather (late October maybe) and can stay on until Easter or later, so 5 months or so.
It depends what times of day you travel but even on a warm autumn or spring day it can be surprisingly cold and frosty early in the morning or in the evening so it's no disadvantage.

Thanks all for your helpful insights. I’ll look out for a set of slightly smaller 20” wheels and a higher profile.

Could someone advise what size WINTER tyres I would need on the Audi 20” rims? My current 21” are 285/30/R21

Doesn't the tyre pressure
Sticker on the car tell you?
I know it does on a B8 RS4

Or use one of the multitude of tyre size equivalence calculators available online?

21 inch just fine for winter, no need extra rims, using same rims for summer and winter)

After reading a few reviews, the Continental Winter contact TS 860 S or 870 seem to be the best non dubbed.
I will be getting a set of 20's and will fit 275/35 since this seems to be the optimum rolling diameter.
Have wondered how far you can go with ET on the wheels with these cars - anyone know if you can go beyond 38 without spacers.....or even under 25 ?
The only dubbed tires I could find were Hakka 9 & 10's.
