Just after some thoughts on why a replaced model such as the C7 is holding up so well in the residual value stakes? Especially considering the C8 being in the market for a year now.
I’m looking to move on from my B9 RS5 which is an amazing car but missing that final ‘emotive’ element that the C7 and others have in spades.
My shortlist is back to a C7 (prob a PE), an E63 or M5 among others. Seems I prefer an aggressive car.
Thing is the E63 & M5 are the current models (albeit undergoing a FL) but seem to be in the same price range as the C7.
Any ideas why? Am sure current C7 owners aren’t complaining at all...

Ha ha that’s the easy get out answer but I would argue that AMG and M have narrowed (some would say taken over) the gap with adaptive AWD. I’ve had 3 Audi RS’ and 3 M cars and the M cars have handled a lot better (although my current RS5 is closer than I expected) than any RS. Have only driven/owned one AMG which was an A45 AMG and that was a disaster.
I’m just curious as to why a replaced model is really holding values against current rivals.

It doesn't hurt that Chris Harris has said on Top Gear that he would buy a C7 over the new model as there isn't enough of a difference to justify the price of the new one...

If you I would buy new car it would be Mercedes amg because of a sound, I owned 335i before so now I should try Mercedes)

This is the reason I struggle to put my car on the market ...Anything I buy will loose me more money and probably won't be as competent. I think I may keep her and finally go and tune it up a little.

That's what I keep telling my wife when she tells me she wants another range rover. I just relay out the amount we'd lose every month....

I dont think this is just a UK thing either - the residual values for both pre and post face lift are holding up really well, with large premiums for Performance models and low mileages. Very similar to the GTR. Tuning actually doesnt make a difference either. Curious as to what will happen as more and more of the market floods with electrified vehicles.

At some point values will drop but to what extent I can’t work out yet.
A PE is only a few grand away from a current model E63 or M5 (S and Comp pack slightly more expensive) which is impressive seeing that it’s a discontinued model that is slower than both of those stock and older tech etc.
Now that my RS5 is long gone I have a while to decide what’s next performance wise but it’s impressive how much the C7 is clinging to higher value.

All about availability. Look at Pork or Ferrari or Lambo. There’s little stock to go at. As soon as new supply returns and/or the arsehole falls out of the economy then values will find their real level. It’s transient pricing right now.

I sold my RS5 to ‘Webuysupercars’ (great service and to be recommended) and he said that Aug may be a good time to buy. That was a few months ago so may have changed, unique times for sure and one key driver may well be the ultimate end of furlow. There will be people living on that 80% whose jobs went under a bus last year…..if they haven’t realised that and retrained then a nasty cliff is approaching.
I’m holding off on buying anything fast for a while longer and see where the land lies later in the year.

Agree furlough is a key milestone. Hard to predict where we’ll be, with the third wave coming we’re in an experiment to see where vaccination has got us. If we keep folk out of hospital then some of those jobs will return.

This ticks almost every box going but the price? It’s got average ish miles and for the same price you can get into a tidy E63S or M5 Competition which are both current models (albeit pre FL) and only around £15-20k away from the cheapest C8)…
Lovely car for sure but is it overpriced?

That just seems stupid. My car which is a 65 ((this is a 66) with most of that stuff and same mileage was 20 grand cheaper 12 months ago from a main dealer. No akrapovich but that's not worth 20k

Not the same, but just had my JCW mini valuation updated. It’s gone up 4K from a valuation I had 6 months ago….
