Electronic Power Steering Module Failure

Post by ShaneyB » Wed Feb 24, 2021 2:29 pm

Hi guys, hope you're all safe and well?

I was on my way to a funeral a few weeks ago when I Had a Stop Driving, steering Issue warning and Adaptive Headlight Failure. When I pulled over I could barely move the steering wheel at all. Turned off, left for 10 minutes, tried again but nothing. Went to funeral and tried again a couple of hours later and still nothing.

It went into Amersham Audi on Monday 8th February and I was told it had a faulty Electronic Power Steering Module which includes a new steering rack and would be available to pick up on Tuesday 15th February latest. This fault is covered under Audi's extended warranty but they have told me they have no idea when the parts will be in stock but hoping for mid-March!!

I sent it to Fontain Audi initially but they wouldn't cover it as it was Extended Warranty.

Any thoughts on how I can get this done quicker please?

Cheers
Shane

Find out the part numbers required, and ring up TPS they will be able to check other dealers who MAY have the part already which can then be sent to your dealer.
The rack is not RS6 specific and is shared across other models.

I had a similar issue a few years back; I had the same messages as you mentioned along with the incredibly heavy steering (took me back to my youth!). Unlike you my issue was intermittent in as much as it would at least play along after a stop-wait-try again cycle so i was able to get home eventually. My issue was solved by charging my battery- I work abroad so my car can lie dormant for several weeks at a time. I had read of many issues with audi (only?) electronics being down to a low battery so tried it as i had nothing to lose and was scheduled to leave country again so a visit to audi was not practical. I know you have had it diagnosed however, I’d still be tempted to stick a charger on your battery - at least it is something you can do while waiting on others.

Thank you, interesting.

Problem is the car is is with the Audi dealership now but when I speak to them today I'll ask them to try it.

Common fault across the C7's. Water ingress into the rack module and causes the failure. Worse thing is they know about it and dont make the module available on its own. hence the high price of the complete rack and then alignment

Hi all,

Picked the car up today from Amersham Audi. With the wait for the parts aside they really looked after me and were in contact constantly.

On the way home I was sat at some traffic lights for HS2 when one of the hundreds of lorries that are now in the area came storming through the lights the other way (maybe 40-50 mph) in a 30mph limit. Swerved round a parked car on the opposite side of the road took off the poor old ladies wing mirror of the car in front of me and that, plus a few bit's a rubble hit my bonnet. Three deep chunks taken out :FIREdevil: Had we not been a tight traffic jam and there weren't 20 cars behind him I would have gone after the <beep>! He was going too fast to get the reg or company name unfortunately.

Whatever twats approved HS2 should be stoned to death. Fuc*ing bent, money grabbing tossers.

Car drove well though.
