C7 and London ULEZ

Post by Edmond » Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:14 pm

Hi Guys,

Just drove my RS6 through the centre of London - and just went to pay congestion charge and it wants me to pay the ULEZ charge as well?! The RS6 (2015 facelift in my case) is Euro 4 compliant right? Euro 4 came out 14 years ago or something ridiculous.. Got to some kind of mistake on their end surely.. my plate was an on old Range Rover prior that definitely was not compliant so am wondering if somehow despite picking up the right car they are picking some old data or somesuch

Go online and check it. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check- ... icle-35896
There are some weird anomalies in the Euro 4 categories so don't assume you're OK.
Strangely my 2002 D2 S8 IS recorded as Euro 4 compliant so NOT subject to the ULEZ charge, despite being built several years before the standard was enforced.
But there are some very weird and complex reasons why that is, down to very specific versions of the Bosch engine management software.
If it had been a few months older it wouldn't comply. Not that I ever have or ever intend to drive it inside the ULEZ, but you never know.....

It shouldn't be Euro 4 in any way as Euro 5 came in in 2011 and the C7 A6 wasn't even built until then - and the RS until 2013 - which would make the whole engine illegal. I've raised a complaint as apparently there have been some ridiculous amounts of mistakes on this

Does the checker show your car model correctly?
And does your car have an unusual history , e.g. import, new engine etc.?
Either way your likely only option is to complain.

My 2016 Performance comes up as having no ULEZ charge so no sure what's happened there. And as my 2006 RS4 is also ULEZ compliant I was expecting the decade newer 6 to be. Doubtless the council gears will crunch for a bit and then they'll work out you've nothing to pay :-)

Just checked my 2015 facelift C7 RS6 and it comes up as ULEZ compliant and no charge applicable

Totally standard car - I took a plate of the forum here for another 65 plate - same as mine and the checker said there's no charge so it has to be a database error still linking the plate to my ancient Range Rover (despite the checker confirming that the car is the RS6)

I've put in a complaint.

Does sound very weird. Both my cars have private plates on and both are identified and treated correctly re Congestion Charge and ULEZ.
Interestingly one of them (2016 era) regularly gets mis-identified by Insurance databases as being Diesel when it's Petrol, but it is a fairly rare model of it's range.

Strange, so if you own 2014 rs6 you can’t go to London streets?)

VICTORY. The bastards were adamant their database was correct - was only when I sent in a scan of the V5 showing the car had NoX of about 10% of what was needed to qualify did they back down and change the database.

The worst thing is is that if these errors are commonplace when they extend the ULEZ more widely in London there will be people who could be unknowingly racking up hundreds of quid in fines before they even get a notice.
