Hey.
So I have always wanted to do a drive around Scotland and heard of the ‘North Coast 500’.
Early days yet but would anyone be up for an RS6 Rally along the North 500 route? It could be over 2 to 3 days?
It maybe something that could be planned for August next year depending on the situation regarding COVID.
I would interested to hearing any thoughts, comments.
Merry Christmas!

I’ve previously been told go east to west, that way the landscape gets better as you go round.

I’d be keen, I’m in North Staffs so a bit of a jaunt to get up there but have wanted to do it for a while myself!

I've done the west side only - up to Durness and back down. Once you get far north a lot of the roads look like this:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@58.25521 ... 312!8i6656
So if you're ok with passing places and understand flow (adjust speed to meet oncoming cars at passing places so no one is held up) then crack on.
Other places are like this:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@58.36422 ... 2!1b1!2i29
and are glorious for driving.
Hymers are plentiful and extremely slow. In general the scenery is so breathtaking that driving fast becomes less of a priority. I particularly liked seeing the Suilven in the flesh for the first time.

Wow! Looks stunning! Thank you for the links. Some of the roads do look a little narrow but as you say, you want to take in the scenery. It would be a waste to hammer it through areas like this. Thanks for the tip regarding the passing areas. I hear the locals aren't really that pleased with all the traffic and chaos the 'driving tourists' cause.
Will start plotting routes and see if accommodation can be booked....subject to this virus of course...If it gets much worse I will pack a tent and a fishing rod!
Thanks again!

I did it 3 yrs ago in June in the B7 RS4 . Went anticlockwise from Aberdeen. Done it over 6 days including drive to and from home . Just shy of £500 in fuel . Be prepared some of the roads have huge potholes.. Scenery is breathtaking though .
Stayed in some ' wigwams' ( not those type !) in Wicke. Hotel on the Isle of skye and a hotel in a place called Drumbeg .
You really are at the mercy of the weather but we were lucky and watch out for the midges !!

It’s a fantastic drive - stunning scenery, wonderful roads and great places to eat.
It was a long held ambition of mine to get an RS6 and do the 500 and we eventually did it last year with the wife and kids.
The only downside being that in day 1 I cracked a wheel rim, couldn’t get it repaired for 5 days and ended up doing the entire route in...
A 75bhp Dacia Logan.

I did it a few years ago in my Caterham 7 and going again this weekend. If you get the weather it really is a bucket list item.
For those thinking about doing the best roads in Scotland I have put a route plan together that captures the best bits of Scotland. It's not the official NC500 route as it misses out the NE part, but there isn't much across the North Coast. This took a good few weeks of planning so hopefully this helps out those who are interested.

There was a group of caterhams when I went back in June 2018.
I've a photo of them all lined up .
