Intermittent misfires on idle - what to log?

Post by viio » Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:13 pm

Hi folks. I've got a 2013 RS6 which has had some misfiring when the car is idling. Normally this happens after a drive, and when I park up I can hear the engine stumbling. I get about 10-15 misfires then it stops. I'm looking for some advice on the logging. I've been looking at all sorts of sensors but I can't see any relationship between the misfires and the values of anything obvious like fuel, turbo, o2, temperatures etc.

Misfires are happening randomly on cylinder 1, 5, but mostly 7.

So far I have done 4 bottles of injector cleaner, replaced all 8 spark plugs and I have 8 new coil packs in. No change so far.

Can anyone recommend some things to check? I'm fairly new to logging data with VCDS, but I'm willing to learn. The strangest thing I can see so far is the difference in O2 sensors and fuel trim between the two banks.

Hi Viio,

Have a read of this thread... might not be relevant to your issue .... but in the end it was a cheap part to change and might help, especially if you are handy and can change the part yourself ?????!!!!

Yea I had a good read through the other misfire posts. I can confirm that 8 coil packs and 8 spark plugs didn't help, so I've ordered 1 exhaust actuator to fit on cylinder 7 (the worst one) and I'll report back if that helps.

I've also heard that the fuel pumps can fail on these cars, so perhaps what I'm seeing is a dying pump. I've also ordered a spare pump to test.

Yeah I have read that too.... but I suppose at some point you will have to take it to a specialist to diagnose, to save throwing money at it and replacing items that potentially dont need replacing??!!

Sorry I can't be of any further help?!?!?

Hope you get it sorted...

Cheers,
Lig.

Lig is right, best to show to the specialist or Audi dealer
