RS6 vs S8 Plus price and options?

Post by madtiger » Thu Nov 05, 2020 9:50 pm

Hi everyone,

I am about to buy my first RS6, its been my favorite and dream car like forever. Now its time to finally get it, 2 months of searching finally one German one got my attention, shortly Performance version 2017 year, 69000 km, with lot of extras - Dynamic Pack Plus, Akra Titanium exhaust, Alcantara headlining, leather dash and side seat covers etc, only missing option for me is the B&O system, but I guess I cannot find the perfect car for a reasonable price. Also warranty till 01/2022.

Now, I am about to put on a deposit tomorrow, browsing in the dealer Shop, I found he has a S8 Plus for sale for almost 15000 EUR less, a year older, but less mileage and a lot more options, B&O, ceramics and possibly near all the nice options available. I know the Akra system put some weight to the RS6 but still..

I like the idea of the RS6 and the estate car but just wondering why the higher class car almost the same year, less mileage and a lot more options has such a big difference in the price, why the RS6 is so expensive now, when like new I think its less than the S8 Plus? And the S8 has almost the same performance and is even lighter.

Here are the two cars:

Will be interested in your thoughts about this, I had some thoughts to switch to the other model for awhile with this price difference but just cannot abandon the RS6 so easily :)
Sorry for my English, not from the UK :)

Hi,

For me the S8 doesn’t look as nice on either the inside or the outside. And also if the RS6 has been your dream car forever then not getting one will mean that itch will demand to be scratched forever!

Where as once you have scratched the itch. The S8 will still be there waiting for you.

Craig.

You're English is very good so absolutely no need to apologise.

I agree with Craig and think you'll soon regret it if you don't buy the RS. I've always loved fast estates and having a couple of dogs just means the car is way more practical for every day life than a big saloon. I had my C5 for 7 years and sold it 6 years ago and still wish I hadn't. I've been looking for the right C7 for at least a year now and still haven't found it so if either of the cars tick all the right boxes then go for it as we live in strange times. Good luck in whatever you decide and most importantly enjoy it.

The S8 will depreciate far quicker than the RS. I had a similar dilemma. Get the RS6 - if not now, when you can.

Thank you for your thoughts on this guys. Today I put on the deposit for the RS6 PE, so its over for good now :) Very happy, cant wait.

I guess the price of the S8 Plus drop faster, than the RS6.. but at last the RS6 is a legend. I don't know a man around me that doesn't know the car or secretly dream about it. I remember when seeing one somewhere, all eyes are on it, so glad I made the right decision :)

I have a big soft spot for the S8 - ever since it appeared in Ronin. I love my RS6 but the C7 is hardly a stealth weapon any more - especially in Sepang with alu pack and 21s. As a result if I have to drive to see clients I don't take it and often end up hiring a Zipcar. The S8 however is so much more restrained that I'd no issue driving it to see people without them thinking "how much money is this fecker making". So for that reason alone I'd consider buying one at some point. Especially as you can pick them up cheap as chips after a while. However as I only have 1 car - RS6 it is and it's definitely a superior car.

Different strokes for different folks, buy the one you "really want".
The modern S8 Plus can be just as brutal as the equivalent RS6 (I've driven both) and as you say is actually lighter.
My personal preference is the more "subtle" S8, though for now I'll stick with my old D2 version - stupidly fast 20 years ago but very slow by modern standards.

The Audi S cars will nearly always depreciate more than the RS version. I appreciate one is a 6 and the other is an 8 but my point still stands. You might be paying more for the RS6 but you will probably sell it for more than the S8 will be worth at the same time.
