Hey all,
I’m sure this has already been done. But thought I’d do one in the hope it helps anyone in the future.
I noticed when buying the car that all but the boot had led lighting. Which seems a bit odd. And soon found that at night when using the boot after a night MTB ride that the lighting was rubbish. And made getting changed a pain. So I looked into LED options. There were plenty of the standard led bulb with “no OBD warning” claims. But knowing that most are rubbish and in no time at all start to flash and if connected to the OBD soon show a warning flag.
Anywho, I stumbled over EMTuning on Instagram that we’re extremely helpful in linking me to their own product not some mass produced offering. Their product in this case was an 8led board that replaces the 501 bulb in the the OEM housing. Giving remarkable lighting and a simple 10min install for all 3 lights.
Their board is well made with what looks to be very good soldering and and hardware.
Delivery was less than 24hrs from ordering which is simply epic! And contact via Instagram was very quick, polite and helpful.
Onto the fitting.
Step 1: remove housing from panel with a small flat bladed screwdriver and disconnect from loom by simply pulling hard on connector.
Step 2: remove black plastic cover revealing the 501 bulb and metal contacts. Remove 501 bulb
Step 3: slightly (a few mm) bend upwards the lower metal portion of bulb holder. This is to allow room for the LED panel to fit under the bulb holder.
Step 4: test polarity of the LED board before the final fit. Do this by connecting the white plug on the board into the bulb holder and connecting back to the cars loom. They should go black wire to the left as you look. If it doesn’t light up simply flip the white connector.
Step 5: once you’re happy with the polarity. Apply some electrical tape to the back side of the board to stop it shorting on the metal case in the OEM housing. I applied 2 layers and they slightly overlapped to the sides. Which made for a comforting snug fit.
Step 6: insert board into housing, plug the boards plug into the contact cage the way around you identified in step 4 and refit black casing.
Step 7: refit loom connector and refit housing into the cars panel and admire the abundance of bright white light.
As I said I use EMTuning https://instagram.com/emtuning?igshid=p8mw5oghnwzr (Instagram profile)
And their product was this https://emtuning.co.uk/product/audi-boo ... led-panel/ be sure to order 3 for our Avants.
I hope this helps someone in the future.
Craig.
